Safety Not Guaranteed's Colin Trevorrow to direct Jurassic Park 4

It was announced in January that Universal Pictures is moving forward with Jurassic Park 4 and, today, a director has been named. Safety Not Guaranteed's Colin Trevorrow will helm the franchise sequel.


The Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment production will be produced by Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley with Steven Spielberg as Executive Producer. The script was written by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes).


Trevorrow's Safety Not Guarantted was released through FilmDistrict and Big Beach Films and stars Aubrey Plaza, Mark Duplass and Jake Johnson. The critically-acclaimed film debuted at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival where screenwriter Derek Connolly won the prestigious Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award. The film also won Best First Screenplay at this year’s Independent Spirit Awards, where Trevorrow was nominated for Best First Feature.

New Dinosaur will be front and center in Jurassic Park 4

We don't know very much about what to expect in the upcoming Jurassic Park 4, but one thing we can guarantee is Velociraptors and a T-Rex or two. A new feature in USA Today, however, teased that a brand new set of teeth will be appearing in the film as well.


"I can't actually tell you who that will be," said paleontologist Jack Horner, who served as technical advisor for the previous "Jurassic Park" films and will consult on the new film. "But you'll want to keep the lights on after you see this movie."

There's a special treat for Jurassic Park fans today on Colin Trevorrow's Twitter feed. He's revealed the first behind-the-scenes glimpse at the highly-anticipated Jurassic Park 4, currently undergoing location scouting. Check out his shot of what will become Isla Nublar below!

Isla Nublar was the fictional location of the original Jurassic Park, as opposed to Isla Sorna, featured in The Lost World and Jurassic Park III. It appears to be a good bet that the action of the franchise sequel will feature a return to the original park.

Is this the plot of Jurassic Park 4?

Earlier this week, ComingSoon.net broke the news that the recently-delayed Jurassic Park 4 is back on track and targeting a 2015 release. Today, JoBlo has an alleged plot description for the much anticipated big screen sequel.


As teased by director Colin Trevorrow in May, the site claims that the new adventure will return the action to Isla Nublar, the island upon which the first film took place (as opposed to Isla Sorna, which appeared in The Lost World and Jurassic Park III). There, a new Jurassic Park is already up and running as a successful theme park attraction with new, "tame" versions of some familiar dinosaurs. All is going well until a new (still unknown) dinosaur wreaks havoc.

As to how long we have to wait before these plot details are verified is anyone's guess, but the "rebooted" theme park idea certainly matches with the teaser poster simply referring to the film as "Jurassic Park." As always, check back for details as soon as they become available.

Colin Trevorrow wants to honor what came before with Jurassic Park 4

After hitting an unexpected delay, development on Jurassic Park 4 is back on track with a general release window of 2015 being given to the film a few weeks ago. Now, director Colin Trevorrow spoke with the Schmoes Know about the progress of the film and seemed very optimistic about its future.


"It's incredible to have Steven, who's done this for decades and has such an incredible filmic knowledge and just understands the language of the story in a way that for us is very refreshing. It's not like getting notes from a studio executive, it's really just trying to crack this and make it the best it can be."


When asked if the film would be a reboot, Trevorrow laughed and said: "We don't want to create a new scoop here, but we definitely want to honor what came before us."


In closing, Trevorrow indicated that they're treating the material with a lot of reverence.


"We are very aware of how much a certain generation especially cares about this movie and we talk about it all the time and really the conversation is: It’s not about us, it’s not about our careers, it’s – how do we make something that can stand with the first one."

Universal Pictures today announced that "Jurassic Park 4" has been retitled Jurassic World and that the film will be released in 3D on Friday, June 12, 2015.

Universal announced last evening that "Jurassic Park 4" is going to be called Jurassic World and hit theaters on June 12, 2015. Now, check out a pitch trailer for the film. Take it for what it is, merely a pitch trailer. Producer Frank Marshall clarified via Twitter that the scene featured is "not part of the movie."

According to the YouTube poster who ran the video: "All I can say is this video was shown as part of Iain McCaig's presentation at the recent Star Wars convention in Germany (he's the fantastic concept artist and designer of Darth Maul). I can only presume it was part of a pitch for reigniting the JP movie franchise, if anyone can confirm please let me know. It was apparently shown to Kathleen Kennedy and Steven Spielberg. Mr McCaig actually said "it certainly got Steven interested in dinosaurs again..." I just think is so cool."

Director Colin Trevorrow reveals when Jurassic World is set

Besides the fact that Universal Pictures will release Jurassic World in 3D on June 12, 2015, we don't know much about what to expect. Rumors have surfaced that the film may be about the park some time later as it is officially open to the public, but the studio has not confirmed that. Fans have also wondered if the movie will serve as a reboot of the franchise. Director Colin Trevorrow has now addressed those worries on Twitter.

"Reboot is a strong word," he said. "This is a new sci-fi terror adventure set 22 years after the horrific events of Jurassic Park."

If it is set 22 years after the first film, it could definitely mean the theme park rumors are accurate.

Vincent D’Onofrio has been cast as the villain in Universal Pictures' Jurassic World, reports Deadline.

The "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" actor is joining a cast that includes Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Jake Johnson, Nick Robinson and Irrfan Khan.

Which Jurassic Park character is back for Jurassic World?

Director Colin Trevorrow is gearing up to shoot Jurassic World with Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Jake Johnson, Nick Robinson, Vincent D'Onofrio and Irrfan Khan starring.

The fourth installment is the subject of many rumors and Trevorrow spoke to IGN to address a few things, namely who - if anyone from Jurassic Park - is coming back.

He said: "I know a lot of fans want to see the original characters back. They’re iconic. But I respect those actors too much to shoehorn them into this story for my own sentimental reasons. Jurassic Park isn’t about the bad luck of three people who keep getting thrown into the same situation. The only reason they’d go back to that island is if the screenwriters contrived a reason for them to go. But there is a character from the first film who makes sense in our world. This hasn’t been announced yet, but BD Wong will be returning as Dr. Henry Wu. He had a much larger role in the original novel, he was the engineer of this breakthrough in de-extinction. He spent two decades living in Hammond’s shadow, underappreciated. We think there’s more to his story."

Trevorrow also describes his film as having an "old soul": "I'm not on a mission to separate this film from the ones that came before. That will happen naturally – I have different instincts. But, like a lot of people my age, I grew up on Amblin movies. They're a part of who I am as a filmmaker, and arguably as a person. This film will have a lot of new ideas in it, but I think the spirit will be familiar. It will have an old soul."

French actor Omar Sy joins Jurassic World

This morning, French actor Omar Sy, who won France's Cesar Award for his performance in the mega-hit The Intouchables and appears as Bishop in Bryan Singer's upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, announced on Twitter (both in French and English) that he's joined the cast of Universal Pictures' Jurassic World.








Although the role Sy plays in the Colin Trevorrow-directed franchise reboot is still unknown, he joins the previously-announced cast of Chris Pratt, Idris Elba, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jake Johnson and Irrfan Khan.

Award-Winning composer Michael Giacchino to score Jurassic World

Production is well underway on the fourth installment of Universal Pictures' dinosaur franchise Jurassic World, directed by Colin Trevorrow and starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Jake Johnson, Omar Sy, but it's now being announced that Oscar and Emmy-winning composer Michael Giacchino has come on board to compose the film's score.

Giacchino is well regarded for his Emmy-winning compositions for the ABC show "Lost" as well as his work on many great films from Pixar Animation Studios, including Up (for which he won an Oscar), Ratatouille and The Incredibles. He has scored all of J.J. Abrams' films so far--Mission: Impossible III, both "Star Trek" movies and Super 8--and this summer, Giacchino provides the score for both the Wachowskis' Jupiter Ascending and for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

If Super 8 gave Giacchino a chance to play in the Steven Spielberg playground (without actually scoring one of the films Spielberg directed), then Jurassic World is one step closer from that happening, although frequent Spielberg collaborator John Williams, who wrote the original Jurassic Park theme, is already slated to compose the music for Abrams' foray into George Lucas territory with next year's Star Wars: Episode VII.

Trevorrow said this about his composer: “Michael Giacchino is a fiercely creative musical mind and a true Jurassic Park fan. While this new score will honor the indelible work of John Williams, our mission is the same as the film itself—to create something bold and new for people who love dinosaurs.
