με τα Windows 8.1 η Microsoft έφερε μια νέα κατάσταση λειτουργίας των laptops και tablets την Connected Standby, πρόσφατα την μετονόμασε σε InstantGo.
Οι συμβατές φορητές συσκευές κατά την κατάσταση InstantGo καταναλώνουν πολύ μικρή ποσότητα ενέργειας ενώ παράλληλα η συσκευή είναι συνδεδεμένη στο διαδίκτυο με αποτέλεσμα οι μπαταρία να κρατά περισσότερο χρόνο χωρίς όμως να θυσιάζεται η σωστή λειτουργία εφαρμογών που χρειάζονται απαραίτητα σύνδεση με το διαδίκτυο, π.χ. e-mail.
Η Microsoft αυτή τη φορά δίνει τη δυνατότητα στους χρήστες να ελέγχουν ποιες εφαρμογές κατά την κατάσταση InstantGo καταναλώνουν πολύ ενέργεια.
σε command prompt εκτελείτε την εντολή:

powercfg /a

θα σας επιστρέψει τις δυνατές καταστάσεις λειτουργίας που είναι συμβατές με την συσκευή σας.

αν στις καταστάσεις λειτουργίας είναι η standby <Connected> τότε μπορείτε στο command prompt να εκτελέσετε την εντολή:

powercfg /speepstudy

η παραπάνω εντολή θα δημιουργήσει το αρχείο sleepstudy-report.html στον φάκελο που την εκτελέσατε..

πρέπει
1. να έχετε δικαιώματα διαχειριστή
2. να είναι εγκατεστημένα τα Windows 8.1
3. το σύστημα να είναι συμβατό με την κατάσταση λειτουργίας InstantGo (standby connected).

That was not the logic a year ago, when the school board, with little discussion, authorized a $30-million contract with Apple that was expected to expand to at least $500 million. An additional $500 million was earmarked for upgrading Internet connections.

At the time, officials stressed the advantages of managing only one device and cost savings from a bulk purchase.

The rollout of the iPads last fall at 47 schools, however, was beset by challenges, controversy and some mistakes.

Students immediately deleted security filters so they could freely browse the Internet. The district recalled the devices at several schools and some students never saw them again. Distribution of the devices quickly fell behind schedule. Senior staff also incorrectly characterized terms of the contract — saying, for example, that the district owned the curriculum. Instead, the contract purchased a three-year license and the materials were incomplete during the first year.

το Update 2 για τα Windows 8.1 θα είναι ένα update όπως τα υπόλοιπα, δεν θα είναι απαιτούμενο όπως το Update 1 και θα είναι διαθέσιμο από 12-8-2014, δεν είναι ακόμα σίγουρο ότι θα περιέχει κλασικό start menu.

Following are some of the new features and improvements included in the August 12th Update Tuesday:

• Precision touchpad improvements – three new end-user settings have been added: Leave touch pad on when a mouse is connected; allow right-clicks on the touchpad; double-tap and drag.
• Miracast Receive – exposes a set of Wi-Fi direct APIs for Independent Hardware Vendor (IHV) drivers or OEM drivers to develop Windows 32-bit applications that run on all supported x86-based or x64-based versions of Windows 8.1, enabling the computer as a Miracast receiver.
• Minimizing login prompts for SharePoint Online – reduces the number of prompts with federated use in accessing SharePoint Online sites. If you select the “Keep me signed in” check box when you log on for the first time, you will not see prompts for successive access to that SharePoint Online site.

This update will be delivered automatically via WU and optional through WSUS. Enterprises can take the update anytime. Further details on the update will be included here on August 12th.

Εδώ δεν μπορώ να πω κάτι,γιατί είναι σε αρχική beta ακόμη.Τρισάθλιο σίγουρα όπως και νάχει.Ελπίζω να βελτιωθεί στις επόμενες εκδόσεις και μέχρι την κανονική κυκλοφορία του.Αν όχι θα τους κράξω,δεν έχω κανένα πρόβλημα!
