Devo - Whip It from LP "Freedom Of Choice" (1980) Warner Bros Records


Nerds ολου του κοσμου ενωθείτε. Οι Devo ηταν ένα θαυμασιο ποπ group, πολύ παραπανω από αυτό που νομιζουμε και εδειχναν, ολοι σπουδαστες της Σχολης Καλων Τεχνων του πανεπιστημιου του Kent, η προσεγγιση τους δεν ηταν και πολύ μακρια από αυτή των Residents, απλα μουσικα διαλεξαν αλλον δρομο. Group για μελετη για τις επερχόμενες γενιες, αποδειχθηκαν πολύ μπροστα από την εποχη τους όταν οι περισοτεροι "ψαγμένοι" τους σνομπαριζαν στην εποχη τους, όπως συνηθως γινεται δηλαδή. To hit τους "Whip It" ακουμε εδώ από το κλασικο τριτο τους album "Freedom Of Choice".

Pulp - Common People from LP "Different Class" (1995) Island records


Ένα από τα πιο σκληρα εργαζομενα groups, δεν τους χαριστηκε ποτε κανεις και τιποτα. Ιδρυθηκαν το 1978 παρακαλω στο φτωχο Sheffield, που ηταν γνωστο για αλλα πραματα. Ακομα τους θυμαμαι από την συμmετοχη τους στην κλασικη συλλογη "Your Secret's Safe With Us" στην Stink Records το 1982, πραγματικα δεν ξεχωριζαν. Αλλα ο Jarvis, πιστευε στον εαυτο του, και ηταν επιμονος σαν μουλαρι. Και δεν ηξερε να κανει και τιποτα άλλο από το να παιζει μουσικη, οποτε η επιλογες του ηταν μονόδρομος. Αλλαζε την συνθεση και τους μουσικους σαν τα πουκαμισα, και δουλευε, δουλευε πολύ. Είναι πραγματικα από τα ελαχιστα groups που γνωριζω εχοντας τοσομ μεγαλη χρονικα καριερα, και τοσο μικρη αναλογικα δισκογραφια σε albums. Και album με album, τραγουδι με τραγουδι γινονταν ολο και καλυτεροι, αδιαμφησβητο γεγονος, ωσπου να εξελιχτουν εκει γυρω στα μεσα της δεκαετιας του 90, και μαλλον δικαιως, ως το μεγαλυτερο βρετανικο ποπ group τοτε. Ο Jarvis δεν ειχε πει την τελευταια του λεξη ομως, μετα το κλασικο και αριστουργηματικο "Different Class", εβγαλε 2 αναπάντεχα αριστουργήματα, κανοντας στροφη στο krautrock, ναι καλα διαβασατε, με τα "This Is Hardcore" και "We Love Life", παντα πιστος όμως στις ποπ βρετανικες ριζες του. Το κοινο του γυρισε την πλατη όμως, κι αυτος διελυσε τους Pulp σχεδόν μετα από 25 χρονια, και ξεκινησε προσωπικη καριερα. Τεράστιος καλλιτεχνης, τεραστιο group. Μας πηδηξε και την πατριωτισα..

But she didn't understand, she just smiled and held my hand.

Smoke some fags and play some pool, pretend you never went to school.

Και για του λογου το αληθες, να κι ένα δειγμα από τον τελευταιο τους αριστουργηματικο δισκο. Δεν νομιζω ότι ειχε να δωσει κατι παραπανω ο Jarvis από αυτό. και ξερετε πολλα groups που να εχουν κοματι με ττλο "Bob Lind" αφιερωμενο φυσικα σε αυτόν τον μεγαλο καλλιτεχνη της δεκαετιας του 60?
