Release Date: June 23, 2017

"The Last Knight" shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock).

There comes a moment in everyone’s life when we are called upon to make a difference. In "Transformers: The Last Knight," the hunted will become heroes. Heroes will become villains. Only one world will survive: theirs, or ours.

Hasbro Studios president says more Transformers movies for next 10 years

Following the news that a Transformers 5 is on the way along with an animated “origin story” film set on Cybertron, comes word today that you can expect a whole lot more Transformers movies in the next 10 years in addition to those. Hasbro Studios president Stephen J. Davis was the Keynote speaker at MIP Junior in Cannes and an official video from the event is now online. In the video below (via TFW2005), Davis talks more about the live-action films at the 13:35 mark.

“Well, you’re going to see a new Transformers movie coming from Hasbro and Paramount and Michael Bay and our other partners,” he says. “In fact, we just finished, as some of you may have read, just an incredible experience. We decided that we wanted to plot out the next 10 years of the Transformers franchise, so we got together in a room over a three-month period of time. Nine of some of the most creative writers I have ever worked with, shepherded by Akiva Goldsman, who many of you may know won an Academy Award for A Beautiful Mind and written a bunch of great movies. And they plotted out the next 10 years of Transformers. Similarly, we are doing the same in television and in digital. So stay tuned, Transformers 5 is on its way, and 6 and 7 and 8.”

Ant-Man scribes Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari will script the animated film and the writers room also included “The Walking Dead” and “Invincible” creator Robert Kirkman, the Iron Man writing pair of Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, “Fringe” and “Lost” scribe Jeff Pinkner, X-Men: The Last Stand and The Incredible Hulk‘s Zak Penn, Black Hawk Down scribe Ken Nolan, “Black List” scribes Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Christina Hodson, “Marvel’s Daredevil” season one showrunner Steven DeKnight and Lindsey Beer, a science major at Stanford, who has written original specs in the sci-fi and fantasy genre.

Paramount Pictures’ most recent entry in the Transformers franchise was 2014’s Transformers: Age of Extinction. Earning more than $1.1 billion at the worldwide box office, the film stars Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor. Michael Bay is expected to direct Transformers 5 again with Wahlberg starring.

Michael Bay confirms he will direct Transformers 5

Despite previously casting doubt on his involvement, like he has for each of the other sequels as well, director Michael Bay confirmed in a new profile at Rolling Stone that he will return for the upcoming Transformers 5 for a summer 2017 release.

“I’m doing Transformers … 5, is it?” Bay tells the outlet. “J.J. [Abrams] told me, ‘You’re the only guy that could do this.’ But it’s time to move on. One more.”

Rolling Stone was also present in Bay’s Santa Monica office when he took a video call with visual effects supervisors at ILM, who showed him “an underwater rendering of a crash-landed alien spaceship, then a new dump-truck Transformer with a cloak” for the new film, which Bay apparently was dissatisfied with in their current form.
