Οταν το ταλέντο συναντά την ιδιοφυΐα, το αποτέλεσμα δεν μπορει να ειναι κατι λιγότερο απο αυτο. Ο Eno, his majesty, Εν ετει 1981, ονειρεύεται μουσικη με Λιβανεζες να ψάλλουν σε εκκλησίες, τον Byrne να παίζει εξάχορδο μπάσο σε πλήρη στύση, και τον εαυτό του στην αγαπημένη του κονσόλα και τα σύνθια σε καθε λογής ηχητική διαςτροφη να χύνει μεςα στα αυτιά μας. Έτη φωτός μπροστα απο την εποχή τους, οταν οι άλλοι πήγαιναν αυτοί ήδη ερχόντουσαν, τουλαχιςτον 5 μπυρες μπροστα to say the least.

Shiny Gnomes - Temple Balls from LP "Wild Spells" (1986) Pastell Records


Ενα "σύγχρονο" κοματι που εχει εισχωρήσει στην ψυχεδελεια ως φορμα όσο λίγα, παλιότερα και νεωτέρα απ αυτο. Ειναι το μοναδικο κοματι που γνωρίζω που εχει συμπεριληφθεί σε συλλογή με 60's garage & psych μπάντες, κι αυτο απο μονο του λεει πολλα. Κι ηταν μονο η αρχή, οι Shiny Gnomes ηταν απο τα ελάχιστα groups της γενιάς τους, για το ειδος, που ουτως η αλλως ειναι λιγο μονοδιάστατο, που ειχαν τοςο συνεπή δισκογραφια με τουλαχιςτον 4 αριστουργηματικά albums.

Κι αλλο ενα επισης, που προσωπικά ίσως να γουστάρω και περισοτερο, απο το αριστουργηματικο album "MC Creatrix"του 1994 στην Our Choice Records, με τίτλο "It's All Here"

Διάολε, εχουν περαςει σχεδον 40 χρονια κι ακομα με κάνει να ανατριχιάζω αυτο το απιςτευτα κατατονικο, πεσιμιστική, εσωστρεφές, σχεδον σχιζοφρενικό κομματι απο το ντεμπούτο album τους. Το σοκ τοτε που το ειχα πρωτοακούσει ηταν τεράστιο και άλλαξε σχεδον τον τροπο που θα άκουγα μουσικη στο μέλλον. Τα τυμπανα του Kenny Morris ακούγονταν έτοιμα για πόλεμο, το μπαςςο του Severin έδινε το σήμα για επιθεςη, οι κιθάρες του McKay απεγνωσμένες, γεμάτες γωνιές, και η φωνάρα της Siouxsie, απόμακρη, νευρασθενικη, αλλα και ταυτόχρονα επιθετική και τσαμπουκαλεμενη. Ηταν εκπληκτικό το πως για μια περίπου πενταετία, κατάφεραν να βγάζουν τον ενα διςκο καλυτερο απο τον άλλον, μια γέφυρα ιδεών του 60 και του 70 με ήχο και αποψη του 80 και του...σημερα.
Ποςο επίκαιρο, ολα διαλυμένα.

Σιγουρα, μονο ο Κασπελ εχει κυκλοφορησει καμμια πενηνταρια προσωπικα. βεβαια, γατακια είναι μπροστα στον Zorn, μονο περσι κυκλοφορησε 15, και φετος, μεχρι στιγμης, εχει κυκλοφορησει καμμια δεκαρια. Βεβαια, δεν ξερω αν τους παρακολουθείς ακομα τους LPD, αλλα συνεχιζουν να βγαζουν το ένα δισκο καλυτερο από τον άλλο , προσωπικα Κασπελ τα εχω αλλα δεν τα εχω ακουσει ακομα (όλα) , δεν μπορω να πω για τον Zorn τα ιδια, μεχρι και χαπια δοκιμασα, δεν μπορω να τα ακουσω ευκολα, δεν είναι κακα, αλλα δεν....

Το εχω ακούσει χιλιάδες φορές, η κασέτα που το ειχα εχει λιώσει εδω και χρονια, ειναι απίστευτος ο τρόπος το πως το κανουν να ακούγεται τοςο σημαντικο, σου τρυπάει το μεδούλι με την εμμονική ακαταλειπτη ερμηνεια μεςα σε πελάγη επικών πολυεπιπεδων σύνθις και μανιασμένα κιθαριστικα επαναλαμβανόμενα riffs. Θα το έπαιρνα μαζι μου άνετα και στην Κόλαση.

Ειναι κάποια πραγματα που μας στιγματίζουν ανεξίτηλα, κι αυτο το κοματι (ολο το album βασικά), ειναι ενα απο αυτα. Δεν ξερω που στο διάτανο ενα άσημο group απο το Hoboken του New Jersey ειχε τόση ευαισθησία και λυρισμό συσσωρευμένη και κατόρθωσε να την διοχετεύσει με ενα εκπληκτικά άμεσο τροπο στον ακροατή, αλλα πραγματικά θα ήθελα να γνωρίσω απο κοντά την Jane Scarpantoni, σνθετρια και ιθύνων νου της μπάντας, με το ανατριχιαςτικο τςελο της να μου εξηγήσει κάποια πραγματα. Υποκλίνομαι αισίως 30 χρονια τωρα ανελλιπώς.

Ότι και να πω για αυτή την μπάντα ειναι λίγο...Τα lifetime songs, άπειρα... Ενα απο τα μεγαλύτερα εγκλήματα της ροκ'ν'ρολ ιστορίας, θα έπρεπε να ειναι στο hall of fame, αλλα δεν... Ήχος εκπληκτικά πλούσιος και λυρικός, κάνουν την Καντάρη και την αμερικανική παραδοσιακή μουσικη να ηχεί πιο σημαντική όσο ποτε, και για την φωνή του Sal...ότι και να πω λίγο ειναι, κανει ολόκληρη ορχήστρα να ακούγεται σαν τενεκεδακι μπροστα του. Ενα πραγματικά απίθανο group.

Κι ενα απο το "Bradley's Barn" της επόμενης χρονιάς, το απίθανο "Deep Water"

Suburban Nightmare - Schizophrenic X-mas from compilation LP "A Midnight Christmas Mess" (1984) Midnight Records


Αλλο ενα lifetime song, στο πνεύμα των ημερών, απο τους καταπληκτικους Suburban Nightmare, με ενα καταπληκτικό mini LP στο ενεργητικό τους (κι αρκετά δυσεύρετο/ακριβό), πριν μετεξελιχθούν στους original gore garage σπηλαιανθρωπους The Dwarves, και το απιθανο ελιξίριο νεότητας που κυκλοφόρησαν 2 χρονια αργοτερα στην Voxx Records, "Horror Stories". Μετα τα εκαναν κυριολεκτικά σαλάτα, αλλα αυτο ειναι άλλη ιστορία. Για την ώρα φάτε τους δηλητηριασμένους κουραμπιέδες και τα γρασαρισμενα μελομακαρουνα που μας προσφέρουν. Exclusive track μονο γι'αυτη την συλλογή, και μακραν το καλυτερο.
