In the near future, outcast teenager Wade Watts escapes from his bleak surroundings by logging in to the OASIS, a globally networked virtual utopia where users can lead idyllic alternate lives. When the eccentric billionaire who created the OASIS dies, he offers up his vast fortune as the prize in an elaborate treasure hunt. Along with gamers from around the world, Wade joins the adventure, and quickly finds himself pitted against powerful corporate foes and other ruthless competitors who will do anything, in the oasis or the real world, to reach the treasure first.

Olivia Cooke loads Ready Player One

Steven Spielberg’s latest has found its Art3mis! Following the actress’ inclusion on a short list earlier this month, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Me and Earl and the Dying Girl‘s Olivia Cooke will play the female lead in Ready Player One.

Olivia Cooke will star as Ar3mis, an OASIS avatar belonging to the coincidentally-named Samantha Cook. Olivia Cooke, who has also been on the big screen in films like The Signal and Ouija, is also well-known for her leading role as Emma Decody on A&E’s “Bates Motel.”

Simon Pegg eyes Ready Player One movie

Simon Pegg is reportedly in talks to join the cast of Steven Spielberg’s upcoming Ready Player One movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the “Cornetto Trilogy” leading man would play OASIS creator Orgen Morrow in the big-screen adaptation of Ernest Cline’s best-seller. The Ready Player One movie cast already includes Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cook and Ben Mendelsohn.

Mark Rylance joins Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One movie

Move over, Tom Hanks, it looks like Steven Spielberg has found a new muse. Just two days ago, it was announced that Spielberg and his Bridge of Spies Oscar winner/The BFG headliner Mark Rylance would reunite for inquisition drama The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara, and now Heat Vision reports that Rylance will also join the cast of the director’s upcoming Ready Player One movie. Rylance will play James Donovan Halliday, the Howard Hughes-esque reclusive creator of OASIS, a role originally rumored to have been earmarked for Gene Wilder. The Ready Player One movie cast already includes Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cook, Ben Mendelsohn and Simon Pegg.

TJ Miller to troll Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One

Steven Spielberg has found himself the perfect griefer in none other than Deadpool and Silicon Valley star TJ Miller. According to The Hollywood Reporter, TJ Miller will play an online troll who goes by the username i-R0k in the upcoming big screen adaptation of Ernest Cline’s best seller. The Ready Player One movie cast also includes Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cook, Simon Pegg and Ben Mendelsohn.
