Σήμερα ήταν τα εγκαίνια του cybercab, του πρώτου αυτόνομου ατίμονου αυτοκινήτου μαζικής παραγωγής.

Είναι εμφανής η μεγάλη γωνία που κάνουν τα γόνατα, κλασικό πρόβλημα των πίσω κυρίως καθισμάτων στα ηλετκρικά αυτοκίνητα, η έδρα του καθίσματος είναι πολύ κοντά στο πάτωμα με αποτέλεσμα να κάθεσαι σαν σε χέστρα. Τελείως άβολο ως κάθισμα και ακόμα πιο δύσκολο στο μπες-βγες. Και με τις πόρτες που ανοίγουν προς τα πάνω να δούμε που θα στηρίζονται για να βγουν έξω οι επιβάτες, ειδικά μεγαλύτερης ηλικίας ή unfit.
Θα δούμε πολλά τώρα που θα κυκλοφορεί στους δρόμους σε πραγματικές συνθήκες.

Approximate scale

The full metro populations of the current cities total roughly 35–37 million people (Austin ~2.5–2.6M, Dallas–Fort Worth ~8–8.5M, Houston ~7.5–7.9M, Miami metro ~6.2–6.3M, Orlando ~2.9–3M, Tampa ~3.3M, Bay Area ~4.7M). That is about 10–11% of the U.S. population (~340–350 million) if the service covered every resident in those entire metros.

In reality, coverage is lower:

• Most markets still use geofenced zones (sometimes small portions of the metro, especially earlier launches in Miami, Dallas, and Houston).
• The active fleet remains modest—Texas registrations recently reached a few hundred vehicles (including new Cybercabs), but independent trackers consistently show far fewer cars actually operating at any given time (often low dozens to low hundreds across all markets combined).

Effective practical access (people who can realistically summon a robotaxi nearby with reasonable wait times) is therefore well under 10%, and likely closer to the mid-single digits.

Bottom line

There has been real progress since the end of 2025—more cities, some unsupervised operation, metro-wide Austin coverage, rising paid miles, and the start of Cybercab—but the service is still operating at pilot/early commercial scale in a handful of Sun Belt metros. It remains far from the original “half the U.S. population” target. Scaling the fleet, expanding geofences, and clearing regulatory hurdles in additional large metros would still be required to approach that level.
