Panasonic DVD-S77S
For those who have LCD TVs, which have weak contrast ratios, this player lets you switch between Light and Dark black level output modes. Of all the imaging features, the top-notch-king-of-the-jungle feature I am grateful Panasonic has implemented is the screen size preset menu.
Even when using the HDMI interface, you can not only zoom into the outputted image but you can zoom to a specific ratio or the preset cinemascope standards. Why is this so great? Well, remember those annoying black bars that always appeared at the top and bottom of your widescreen movie; this player has an Auto feature that automatically determines the zoom ratio and enlarges the outputted image to fit your TV screen. This feature is important to note because some, if not all, TVs may not let you use the TV's built-in zoom feature when using HDMI or DVI connection methods; my Samsung projection TV behaves this way. Also, the adjustable noise filters in the player do a fantastic job of smoothing out noise and pixellation distortions on poorly compressed DVDs.
