Hong Kong, August 24, 2004 – LG.Philips Displays, the world’s leading cathode ray tube (CRT) display maker, announced today that mass production of its 32” WideScreen Real Flat (WSRF) SuperSlim tubes is scheduled in the first quarter of 2005. The manufacture of these new innovative tubes will be made in its Gumi, Korea facility.

This will expand the company’s Cybertube+ SuperSlim product range, following the production and market introduction of its 21” Real Flat SuperSlim in December last year. The tubes are currently being produced at the company’s factory in Durham, United Kingdom and will also be manufactured at its plant in Nanjing, China next month.

The SuperSlim tube measures only 35 cm from front to back, thus achieving up to a 30 percent depth reduction compared to similar CRT products in the market.

A 32” wide screen TV set using LG.Philips Display’s SuperSlim Color Picture Tube (CPT) would measure 38 cm, compared with current TV depths of 54 cm. This will give the CRT TV set an excellent flat and stylish design, comparable with plasma or LCD TVs.

For set makers, the use of the SuperSlim tubes will give them considerable savings by reducing glass and weight, packaging materials and transport costs.

Since the SuperSlim presentation to the market in August 2003 during the IFA event in Berlin, Germany, LG.Philips Displays has received keen interest from its customers, including the world’s top TV set makers, to design-in the new SuperSlim products. Leading set makers have started selling TV sets with the 21” Real Flat SuperSlim tube inside.

A number of customers have also confirmed for co-design programs with LG.Philips Displays in preparation for their production of SuperSlim CRT TV sets that are little deeper than plasma or LCD TVs using the 32” WSRF SuperSlim.

Due to enthusiastic response from customers, LG.Philips Displays is planning to expand the SuperSlim product range with 29” Real Flat and 28” WSRF SuperSlim.

Consumers are now looking for widescreen TV sets that are more stylish and take up less space in their living rooms than existing CRT-based TV sets, without having to pay the high price tags of the latest display technologies like plasma or LCD TVs.

The 32” WSRF prototype and the 21” Real Flat SuperSlim CPT tubes now in production are currently on display at the LG.Philips Displays booth in the Asia Display and IMID 2004 Exhibition held in Daegu, Korea from August 24-26, 2004. This is the largest display conference in Korea participated in by Asia’s biggest display makers

Μια πεθαμένη τεχνολογία λέτε να αναστηθεί ξανά;

Γιατί αν το καταφέρουν και μεγαλώσουν και τις ίντσες τότε δεν τις βλέπω καλά τις πλάσμα!!!
