A L M O S T all projection techniques suffer from an image background that is gray rather than black. The gray background is visible as a frame that spoils the view, causes edge-blending problems and, above all, ruins the brilliance of an optical planetarium sky. That is why many full-dome systems are not used simultaneously with an optically projected night sky.
