Today, June 15th, we're excited to announce the official release of DivX 6!

DivX 6 marks a new era in DivX history. Where before DivX was simply a codec technology, today we expand the DivX universe and add the DivX Media Format to our media ecosystem. Bringing with it advanced media features such as alternate audio tracks, multiple XSUB(tm) subtitle streams, XTAG(tm) video tags, chapter points, interactive video menus with scene selection, multiple titles and more, the DivX Media Format creates a true home theater experience both on and off the desktop.

Επίσης είναι έτοιμη και μια βελτιστοποιημένη έκδοση κοδικοποίησης με την ονομασία DivX Helium η οποία καταφέρνει να συμπιέζει με διπλάσια ταχύτητα divx σε ένα P4 dual core σύστημα!

DivX Helium codec demonstrates our latest research into processor optimization, achieving encoding times up to twice as fast as DivX 6 in the highest quality (Insane) mode when run on dual core, HT and SMP CPUs.

While everyone has been extremely busy at DivX, fine tuning the DivX Media Format and getting ready for the DivX 6.0 release, the codec team, who finished the codec related work months ago, found the time to start working on the next codec release. The preliminary results are just mind blowing. In fact, the results are so impressive that we couldn’t wait to share them with you. Although it’s highly unusual to release two different version of the same product on the same day, that’s exactly what we decided to do. The speed gain is so incredible that we didn’t think it would be fair to keep it to ourselves.

Please note that this release takes advantage of multi-thread capable systems, like SMP multi-processors, HyperThreaded and Dual Core processors. You will only see marginal improvement with single-thread systems.

Disclaimer: DivX Helium is a work in progress. While the quality and stability is very good, DivX Helium did not go through a complete QA process and, as a result, there may be some issues that we missed. The usual disclaimers apply here: this version can screw up your system, burn you CPU, make you sexual life miserable and DivX shall not be held responsible, blah, blah, blah...

The DivX Helium installer contains only the Helium codec. You will need to install the DivX 6 Create Bundle before installing DivX Helium on top of it. If you are not already a registered user of DivX Pro, you may install the free DivX Create Bundle 6-month trial and install the DivX Helium codec on top of that.
