New data from iSuppli Corp suggests that both the LCD TV and monitor markets are beginning to tighten as over-supply eases. Panels for PC monitors have recently increased 2 per cent, with 32 inch TV screens now holding steady after five months of steady decline.
According to Sweta Dash, iSuppli’s director of LCD and projection research, prices are being boosted by reductions in inventory and stabilising production costs. As the market price of certain panel sizes dipped below the actual production cost, panel-makers actually closed lines to concentrate on larger more profitable screen sizes.
By the third quarter, iSupply predicts that demand will begin to outstrip supply on some screen sizes, and this could cause prices to rise."
