Most anything you'd want to play back or entertain yourself with in-car is covered by at least one of these head-units, with some offering better combinations of features than others. If you want to watch DVDs or DivX videos you'll find you're paying a higher premium for the support and colour displays required, but the two units we tested can still be picked up for a reasonable price.
Even at the budget end of the scale you'll now find MP3 support coming as standard, often with accessories available to connect an iPod or other player directly. Sony's Bluetooth player manages wireless audio pretty well, and though call quality isn't quite up to standard it's still impressively priced if you're on a budget. At the other end of the scale you'll find Panasonic offering an impressively large fold-out touch-screen display that combines more conventional audio and DVD playback with a hefty degree of potential when you consider what else you could potentially hook up to entertain on the move.
In picking a winner though, Panasonic gets pipped by JVC's KD-AVX2 for us. As well as being a fair bit cheaper you'll find much better format support and a nice 3.5in display for enjoying video content or simply offering more room to navigate larger playlists.
