The HFX is the first full size ATX PC with a HiFi Design and a truly silent passive cooling. You can use all your standard ATX equipment (PSU, mainboard, DVD writer etc.) and turn it into a silent PC with an outstanding and unique design.
With its dimensions and the pure aluminium design the HFX Media PC fits perfectly into your home HiFi environment. With its massive heatsinks it will be cooled down passively to get an endless performance without any fan noise.
With a remote control, an integrated VFD and the right media software it combines traditional home HiFi equipment like DVD player, video recorder, tuner all in one device.
The design is oriented to traditional home HiFi equipment. The cooling abilities are emphasised with huge aluminium heatsinks on each side and big venting holes on the top. That gives this PC the look of a high-end amplifier.
The front cover shows only 2 buttons and hides a DVD burner, VFD and IR behind a mirrored acrylic glas. Even the floppy disc, that is rarely used is placed on the backside.
The massive design is supported by the use of high-quality material. Heatsinks, front and top cover are made of pure aluminium. The front cover and the top cover are brushed, the heatsinks are black anodised.
The DVD burner is hidden behind the mirrored acrylic glas. All sorts of DVD burners can be used. No slim type required. You only have to switch the front cover from the DVD with the mirrored acrylic glas.
The buttons are reduced to a bare minimum. One button serves the DVD burner and one button the power switch. A reset switch can be found on the backside.
To meet HiFi connectivity standards, 4 pairs of audio cinch plugs are provided on the backside to exploit the whole HiFi potential out of the HFX media PC.
Passive cooling system
The mCubed HFX media PC is equipped with huge aluminium heatsinks on each side of the chassis. Like with high performance power amplifiers the heat will be dissipated over the heatsinks via natural air convection. The vertical heatsinks have a special rippled surface to enforce the convection.
The two main heat sources in a PC are the power supply and the processor. The passive cooled power supply will be directly mounted to the left heatsink. The heat of the processor will be transferred with heatpipes to the right heatsink.
While ATX standard is based on active cooling with cold air coming from the front and warm air going out in the back, the HFX standard is based on natural air convection. This means that cool air is coming from the bottom and warm air is going up to the top. Therefore the mCubed HFX media PC provides a lot of air holes on the bottom and 3 huges venting holes on the top cover.
For safety reasons (hot environment, unsufficient air circulation) a 92mm safety fan can be added underneath the right venting hole.
HFX
means HiFi-ATX and ensures highest standards in ergonomics, quality and power for home entertainment.
HFX is a new concept for building home entertainment PCs based on the ATX standard, but provides a complete new air circulation concept. While ATX is based on an active forced air flow (front to back), the HFX is based on natural air convection (bottom to top).
It supplies full compatibility to all standard ATX components like mainboards, power supply, full size slot cards, 5.25" bays etc.
An HFX media PC has to meet certain requirements:
HiFi dimensions of 430mm width
HiFi audio and video quality standards
Silent cooling
Integrated remote control
Display for stand alone mode (without monitor)
In the mCubed HFX media PC you can integrate a standard ATX power supply (passive preferred), a standard ATX mainboard, 6 full size expansions slots (no riser card), 4x 5.25" bays, 1x 3.5" bay (on the backside). Processor and power supply can be cooled passively with the huge heatsinks on both sides.
HFX is a trademark of mCubed. The design of the mCubed HFX media PC is registered.
