Fellow H/K brands Infinity and JBL have launched a pair of subwoofers with a new twist – wireless connectivity. Infinity’s PS212W is a 12" subwoofer with a 400 watt amplifier that features a built in wireless transceiver. An included 2.4GHz transmitter connects to the preamp or receiver and sends signals to the sub, with four selectable channels for "interference-free" operation. Having personally witnessed a bloodbath between a microwave oven, cordless phone, and wireless router for the same slice of 2.4GHz pie, I’m inclined to take that "interference-free" part with a big grain of salt. The Infinity retails for $679.
JBL’s Cinema Sound CSS10W uses the same system in a smaller 10" subwoofer with a 300 watt amplifier. It will be available January 2008 for $559.
