Hitachi says its new frame rate compensation technology for plasma has a more profound benefit on picture quality than Full HD resolution.
Speaking at the US launch of a trio of new plasma screens which incorporate the so-called Reel60 60Hz frame rate mode, the Japanese brand says that viewer benefits are clearly superior. Reel60 uses proprietary motion interpolation to remove the picture judder commonly seen in slow pans of film material, created by traditional 3:2 pull-down techniques. Demonstrations of Reel60 showed impressive improvements in motion handling, removing pan stutters and smoothing fast-moving action scenes.
Bill Whalen, Hitachi’s US product development director says the benefits are “more meaningful” than 1920x1080p resolution to most viewers.
