Panasonic will expand its 1080p plasma TV range with a 42-inch 700 series model, due to ship into the UK July. “This year’s buzz word with consumers looking for flat-panel HDTVs is most definitely 1080p,” says Dennis Eppel, Panasonic America’s display VP. “We listened to our consumers and they want choices when it comes to 1080p.”
Panasonic UK’s Steve Lucas, however, admitted that even on the company’s new 50-inch screen, the visual benefits between 1080i and 1080p are difficult to spot, and that seeing a difference on a 42-inch model is even more challenging. “But I think that just shows how strong our 1080i 600-series models are,” he added. Lucas believes the most compelling reason to buy the brand’s 700 series 50 inch plasma model is the improved feature spread, which includes a Full HD jpeg SD card reader.
