9/10/2004 Texas Instruments DLP™ TVs and Projectors Shine Brightly as the Display Technology Leader at CEDIA EXPO 2004 (part 1)

Dallas, Texas – Sept. 10, 2004: Today at CEDIA EXPO 2004 in Indianapolis, IN, TV and projector manufacturers are showcasing a wide range of innovative products based on Texas Instruments (TI) (NYSE: TXN) DLP™ technology – providing consumers with outstanding picture quality and high reliability in the latest home theater systems and large screen TVs. Many TI customers will unveil exciting new products based on next-generation DLP™ technology: including DarkChip3™, which provides the deepest blacks and the sharpest images possible from front projectors today.

“Projectors and TVs featuring DLP™ technology are driving product innovation and exciting consumers with clearly visible improvements in picture quality and overall performance,” said Dale Zimmerman, Business Manager, DLP™ Home Entertainment business, Texas Instruments. “Over the past year, many of our customers have established market leadership positions through their best-selling DLP™ projectors and TVs – and we’re proud to see them offer such an expansive line of products here at CEDIA 2004.”

Among the companies exhibiting products based on DLP™ technology are:

Digital Projection (Booth 710)
 Digital Projection will exhibit its compact DLP™ 3-chip MERCURY HD, which provides brilliant, high-contrast imagery with exceptional luminance uniformity. The MERCURY HD offers 1600 ANSI lumens and 2800:1 contrast, while the MERCURY 5000HD provides 4,500 ANSI lumens and 1000:1 contrast.
 Digital Projection will also demonstrate its single-chip iVision HD-7 (1,000 ANSI lumens, 3000:1 contrast) and its 35HD-R Reference Display, which is capable of up to 12,000 ANSI lumens and 2000:1 contrast.

DreamVision (Booth 448)
 DreamVision will demonstrate its X3 home theater projector featuring DLP™ 3-chip HD2+ technology. The X3 can support all video sources, from 480p to 720p and 1080i, and offers a 3200:1 contrast ratio with 3460 ANSI lumens.
 DreamVision will also exhibit its DreamWeaver Plus projector featuring DLP™ HD2+ technology, a 2300:1 contrast ratio and 1200 ANSI lumens. The DreamWeaver Plus complies with all popular worldwide standards for video and includes a Carl Zeiss 35mm filter thread for screen size installation flexibility.
 DreamVision will also introduce the Dreamy, its new small home theater 480P projector featuring DLP™ 854x480 Pixel 0.5””. The Dreamy has many inputs, including DVI-D, and offers a 2100:1 contrast ratio with 850 ANSI lumens.

InFocus® Corporation (Booth 322)
 InFocus will showcase the InFocus ScreenPlay 777, the company's new DLP™ 3-chip projector for the elite home cinema that projects breathtaking colors, incredible brightness and amazing contrast. With a unique industrial design and unmatched image quality, the InFocus ScreenPlay 777 is the ideal projector for custom installers who want to provide their customers with the top echelon of home cinema technology.
 InFocus will also debut the world-revolutionary 6.8" deep ultra-thin microdisplays - the ScreenPlay 61md10 and ScreenPlay 50md10. Featuring proprietary, patent-pending microdisplay InFocus Engine and DLP™ technology, these 50 and 61-inch televisions redefine RPTV. At less-than 7 inches thin and light enough to hang on a wall, these TVs generate award-winning ScreenPlay image quality. The full ScreenPlay series will be on display at InFocus' training room in Marriott Ballroom Indiana E.

LG/Zenith (Booth 310)
 LG Electronics will demonstrate its DU-52SZ61D, a 52-inch rear-projection integrated HDTV which is CableCARD-ready with a built-in LG fifth-generation ATSC tuner. It features DLP™ HD2+ technology and offers advanced connectivity options, HDMI, RGB and IEEE-1394, as well as dual-tuner PIP, POP and split-screen options, 3D Y/C comb filter, 3:2 pulldown cinema correction, and Dolby SRS TruSurround Sound. This model, available this fall at a suggested price of $4,199, is being honored with a 2004 Golden Eye Award by The Perfect Vision magazine.
 LG will also showcase a 44-inch rear-projection HDTV with DLP™ HD2+ technology. Cutting-edge design and a slim form factor make this unit perfect for many home theater environments where space is at a premium. The RU-44SZ61D delivers exceptional picture quality, with Ultra Fine Pitch Screen and 10 Element HD Lens System, and offers advanced connectivity options, including DVI+HDCP. This model, available now at a suggested price of $2,999, is being honored as a 2004 “Product of the Year” by Electronic House magazine.

Liesegang (Booth 1776)
 Liesegang will launch the Luxor, a high-end home theater projector equipped with DLP™ HD2+ technology, native WXGA (1280x720) resolution and a contrast ratio exceeding 2500:1.
 Liesegang will also show its mobile professional DLP™ projectors, the ddv2300, powered by 2,300 ANSI lumens and a contrast ratio of 1500:1; along with the affordable Piccadilly (1,000 ANSI lumens and 1,500:1 contrast ratio) and the lightweight, yet high-performing Piccadilly pro with XGA (1024x768) resolution.
 Liesegang will also announce at CEDIA a new warranty program that offers an incredible 48 months of coverage for all Liesegang projectors across all channels. The warranty covers parts and labor for the first 24 months or 2,400 hours of operation. - After 24 months or 2,400 hours and up to 48 months or 3,300 hours, all labor costs are covered under the new warranty program.

Marantz (Booth 436)
 Marantz will demonstrate its groundbreaking VP-12S4 High-Definition DLP™ HD2+ Projector, which delivers an unprecedented new level of resolution, color accuracy and brightness. The VP-12S4 is distinguished by a stunning new look, featuring an elegant pearlescent cosmetic that complements any home theater decor. For an uncompromising digital viewing experience, the VP-12S4 features two HDMI inputs. The VP-12S4 will be available at the end of 2004 for a suggested retail price of $13,499.

Mitsubishi (Booth 402)
 Mitsubishi will demonstrate six new DLP™ TVs which all feature 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, including the 52-inch WD-52525 and the 62-inch WD-62525; the Medallion series 52-inch WS-52725 and 62-inch WD-62725; and the Diamond series 52-inch WD-52825 and 62-inch WD-62825, which each include HD PVRs, MPEG SD encoders and integrated 20-gigabyte hard drives.
 Mitsubishi will display the Home Cinema HC900U projector, which features DLP™ technology and Mitsubishi's proprietary CineView(tm) video processing technology to ensure smooth displays of video playback; CineFocus(tm) technology which automatically adjusts black and contrast levels; and CineRich(tm) Color gamma controls to create rich, dramatic color for each movie shown. Mitsubishi will also exhibit the HC3 Home Cinema ColorView(tm) Projector, a16:9 projector designed exclusively for home theater and other applications requiring widescreen display format. The HC3 ColorView offers 960 x 540 resolution and 1200 ANSI lumens.
 The fully-featured Mitsubishi HC2000 with DLP™ HD2+ technology will also be showcased. The HC2000 offers a 3600:1 contrast ratio and Mitsubishi CineView HD(tm) video processing technology, which processes and scales all signals for the smoothest, cleanest images. The HC2000 is in limited distribution through a select group of A/V Specialty Retailers, and has a market price of $10,999.

NEC Solutions America (Booth 13)
 NEC will introduce two new ShowcaseTM Series home entertainment DLP™ 1-chip projectors at CEDIA. Ideal for consumers who want to bring the movie theater experience into their home, the HT410TM and HT510TM projectors pack 16:9 native resolution, 1000 ANSI lumens and 1200:1 contrast ratio for commanding video display in virtually any viewing environment. The HT410 (WVGA/854x480) and HT510 (1024x576) will be available for an ESP of $1,495 and $1,995 respectively. The HT410 will begin shipping in October 2004 and the HT510 in November 2004.

Optoma Technology (Booth 1702)
 Optoma will launch the Sovereign™ Series DLP™ front and rear projection product line designed exclusively for the home theater professional. The SV50XF and the SV65XF (50” and 65” diagonal image size, respectively) feature DLP™ HD2+ technology and a professional level of control for the calibrator and for the home theater integrator. The Sovereign line also includes the H77 Home Theater Projector, featuring a world-class 3500:1 contrast ratio for vivid colors, true blacks and an extraordinary depth of field.
 Optoma will also launch the H57 home theater projector featuring DLP™ DarkChip2™ technology, native 576p resolution, a contrast ratio of 2500:1, breathtakingly vivid colors, and a native 16:9 aspect ratio.
 Optoma’s RD-50 and RD-65 HD2+ DLP™ TVs will also be shown in the booth. These TVs feature 1280 x 720 high-definition resolution, and an impressive 2000:1 contrast ratio. The Optoma RD-50 was recently awarded the “Digital World Choice Award” from the Editors of PC World.

Panasonic (Booth 412)
 Panasonic will demonstrate its 50" widescreen PT-50DL54 TV utilizing DLP™ HD2+ technology. Featuring an 8-segment color wheel, the PT-50DL54 provides rich colors and a 2500:1 contrast ratio. Other features include PhotoViewer with SD & PCMCIA card slots, HDMI and Direct Access Video Input. The PT-50DL54 is available now for a MSRP of $3,499.95.

Runco (Booth 230)
 Runco will demonstrate its Video Xtreme™ VX-2c Projection System, which was the first DLP™ projector to deliver a native 16:9, 3-chip entertainment experience. The VX-2c provides high light output of 2,500 ANSI Lumens and a sharp 3100:1 contrast ratio. The VX-2c is also the world’s first projector to include Runco’s exclusive new LiveLink™ technology, which is the only existing solution today for transmitting DVI pure digital signals over long distances. The VX-2c is now shipping worldwide.

Samsung Electronics America (Booth 285)
 Winner of CES' Best of Innovations 2004 for the video category, Samsung will feature its Floor Standing DLP™ TV Designer Series. With 50" (HLP5085W) and 56" (HLP5685W) screen sizes, its innovative pedestal design features a vertical mounted DLP™ light engine for enhanced look and a cabinet that is less then 13" deep. These revolutionary TVs feature DLP™ HD2+ technology, the new Samsung Cinema Smooth™ Gen 4 Light Engine and offer a minimum of 2500:1 contrast ratio.
 Samsung will also be demonstrating its 65 series line of DLP™ TVs, which are the first DLP™ TV utilizing HD3 technology, offering smooth, seamless images. Available in 46" (HLP4663W), 50" (HLP5063W), 56" (HLP5663W) and 61" (HLP6163W) screen sizes. These TVs offer Samsung's Cinema Smooth™ Gen 3 light engine, bringing consumers increased brightness, 1500:1 contrast ratio and a smooth, film-like picture.

Sharp Electronics Corporation (Booth 610)
 Sharp will introduce a next-generation portable DLP™ projector, the SharpVision® XV-Z2000, a 720p HD-Capable DLP™ home entertainment solution that doesn't require a ceiling mount. The XV-Z2000 offers consumers the ultimate home theater experience and features a contrast ratio of 2500:1 and a brightness level of 1200 ANSI Lumens. The XV-Z2000 will be available in November for an MSRP of $4,499.99.
 Sharp will showcase the SharpVision(r) XV-Z12000 high definition DLP™ front projector. The XV-Z12000 uses DLP™ HD2+ technology and Sharp's proprietary Computer & Video Integrated Composer (CV-IC) System II technology; providing an unprecedented 5500:1 contrast ratio (in high contrast mode) and 900 ANSI Lumen brightness (in high brightness mode). The XV-Z12000 is available now for an MSRP of $11,999.95.


SIM2 Multimedia (Booth 275)
 SIM2 will unveil two new DLP-based additions to the Grand Cinema HT line, HT300 E-LINK and HT300 E front projectors, and one to the DOMINO Line, the DOMINO 55. The HT300 E-LINK and HT300 E will be on of the first projectors on the market to feature the new DarkChip3 chip by Texas Instruments, together with new video calibration software. These two Grand Cinema products will be capable of delivering an outstanding 3500:1 contrast ratio. HT300 E-LINK will have a MSRP of $14,995 and the HT300 E will sell for $11,995.
 Following the award-winning RTX rear projection display based on DLP™ technology, SIM2 in introducing the DOMINO 55, a new DLP™ display into the successful DOMINO range capturing the essence of the RTX, but extending the concept to a feature-packed product. This product will feature the 1280x720 HD2 chip, which coupled with SIM2’s proprietary light engine is capable of delivering a 1800:1 contrast ratio. The DOMINO 55 will have a MSRP of $6,995.

Thomson (Booth 1020)
 RCA Scenium Profiles, a line of ultra-thin DLP™ HDTV Sets, will be on display at the annual CEDIA show. The new Digital Cable Ready models feature cabinets only 6.85 inches deep and light enough to hang on a wall, making them ideal for custom installation. Two models in 61" and 50" screen sizes are scheduled for 2004 distribution with a mural-sized 70" model planned for next year. All Profiles models utilize a newly developed InFocus Light Engine, which enables the ultra-thin design.
 Also on display at the CEDIA show is an all-new family RCA Scenium and RCA brand Digital Cable Ready widescreen DLP™ HDTVs in space-saving cabinets as thin as 16 inches deep, weighing less than 100 pounds in screen sizes of 61-, 50- and 44-inches. Overall the 2004 RCA line includes more than a dozen DLP™ models.

Toshiba (Booth 270)
 Toshiba announces retail availability of the majority of its TheaterWide® DLP™ Projection TVs and two of its Cinema Series® DLP™ Projection TVs. The technology at the center of these sets is a proprietary Digital Light Engine named TALEN (Toshiba Advanced Light Engine) designed and manufactured by Toshiba. This new system utilizes DLP™ HD2+ technology to provide high resolution with improved brightness and contrast.
 Toshiba also announces the retail availability of its TDP-MT800 high definition DLP™ front projector intended for home theater enthusiasts. The MT-800 features 1280 x 720 pixels for true 16:9 high-definition images, accepting signals up to 1080p. Also available and on display at CEDIA is Toshiba’s MT200 DLP™ projector, which offers a 2000:1 contrast ratio and 800 ANSI lumens.

Yamaha Electronics Corporation (Booth 424)
 Yamaha will introduce its third generation DLP™ projector, the DPX-1100, which features DLP™ HD2+, a 4000:1 contrast ratio, and is capable of delivering 1080i or 720p HDTV resolutions with a 1280x720 16:9 native aspect ratio for a true widescreen image. Its predecessor, the DPX-1000, was recognized by the Industrial Designers Society of America as one of the most innovative designs of 2003.

The latest in DLP™ technology for TVs and projectors can also be seen at the DLP™ booth #420.
