Denon unveils the first 'fully formed' Blu-ray products - and plans to launch them pre-Christmas
Denon has caught us on the hop this week by unveiling in America details of its first high definition disc products: two Blu-ray systems that crucially both meet the new Blu-ray Profile 1.1 specification permitting them to play BD Java content from Blu-ray discs (something not supported by any current Blu-ray models).
The Denon DVD-3800BD is a Blu-ray player retailing in the US for around $2000, while the DVD-2500BT is, intriguingly, a Blu-ray transport that needs to be connected to a suitable AV receiver to do the decoding. There's no price on the transport as yet.
Both decks also sport SD card interfaces - another feature mandated by the Profile 1.1 standard - while as usual Denon has thrown the kitchen sink at picture quality, equipping the 3800BD with the acclaimed 10-bit Silicon Optix REALTA chipset and 1080p upscaling of your old DVDs should you be able to bear watching them any more after seeing real HD in action...
Both Blu-ray products are due to launch in the UK around November, and we'll bring you more details on them then.
