Ενεργά και 300kg έκαστο...

A few words on the cabinets first. The system is devided into three sections, two bass boxes and a large mid section. The system has to be set up on-site because of its weight.

The bass boxes are made from 30 mm MDF with internal bracing. They are quite light, about 35 kg without the driver. Internal volume is 100 liters.

The mid section houses the tweeter, two midranges and two mid-woofers. All drivers have their separate closed chamber. There is also a room at the back, where the power amplifiers are placed. There are large chambers along the sides and between the amplifier room and drivers that are filled with sand for damping and mass. More than 100 kg of sand are used in each cabinet! The sand was filled in after the mid section was mounted on top of the bottom bass box. With sand, drivers and amplifiers, the mid section weighs at least 220 kg.

The cabinets are laquered. I dont like veneer...
The drivers are:

  • 18" Woofers - Beyma 18P1200nd
  • 8" mid-woofers - Seas Excel W22EX001
  • 5" midranges - Seas Excel W15CH001 (with the hexadym magnet system)
  • tweeter - Mundorf AMT2340 Air Motion Transformer.
On the rear side of the mid section I have a large aluminium plate, where the amps are mounted - all ICEPower amps. Originally it was configured like this:

one ICE 1000ASP driving both woofers (1000W)
one ICE 500ASP driving both mid-woofer (500W)
two ICE 500A, powered from the ASP, driving the mids and tweeter (500W each)

I have tested the new ICEpower ASX2 series of amps. They do sound better, especially in the treble. They also reveal more detail, depth and ambience. So - now I am driving the tweeters with an external ICE 50ASX2 in stereo mode - that is 2x50W/4 ohms. The mids are powered with an external ICE 125ASX2, also in stereo, 2x120W/4 ohms. Because they are stereo amps, long speaker cables are needed...

The plan is to mount an ICE 125ASX2 into each speaker, replacing the two 500A modules for the mid and tweeter.

Εκει ειναι το xekoufening spot. Ξερεις εκει χρειαζεσαι μαξιλαρακι για να μη σου παρει το κεφαλι πισω καμμια μπασσια.

Εδώ που τα λέμε, θέλει cojones για να κάτσεις σε τόσο μικρή απόσταση απο 4 18άρια...
Άλλα δε βαριέσαι... Μια ζωή την έχουμε!

Και εκεί η πρώτη ερώτηση είχε το ίδιο ύφος:

-Με πόσο μεγάλο γερανό τα μετακινείς;

Τα 4 18άρια θα κάνουν μια ουρά στα μπάσα τόοοοση (με το συμπάθειο).
Ποτέ δε γούσταρα τα μεγάλα γούφερ. Προτιμώ πολλά μικρότερα, π.χ. 10άρια.

Ουρά στο μπάσο δε νομίζω.
Το crossover είναι σε PC οπότε το φέρνει όπως θέλει (drool here), η καμπίνα είναι κλειστή και η οδήγηση επαρκέστατη.

The only answer is to do this active in the digital domain. With a digital solution we have control over driver delay, crossover frequency and slope, driver levels, EQ and more. The best part is that everything can be changed while we sit in the listening chair and play music. Compare that to 3 hours over the solder core, which is the analog/passive alternative....

In-room, the speaker is well within +/- 1 dB from 20 to 20 kHz. On-axis in the listening position, the speaker is on an anechoic measurement (without room interference) flat from 200 to 20 kHz within +/- 0,2 dB!

The things that people praise the most with this system is the bass quality, the lack of any tonal anomalies and the low distortion and great dynamics.
Ο Μιχάλης που τα ξέρει καλύτερα αυτά ίσως μπορεί να μας πει περισσότερα, πάντως νομίζω ότι στη συγκεκριμένη εφαρμογή θα χρειαζόταν πολλά 10αρια για να πάρει το χαμηλό που του δίνουν τα Beyma.
