NHK gets closer to Ultra-HDTV NHK’s technicians showed off their latest technology, and a 0.33mm pixel pitch (the distance between pixels) which they say they are now working on scaling up to 100” across. To give an example of what this means in practice, the NHK engineers have over the past few years managed to reduce their pixel pitch from 0.9mm to today’s 0.33mm. This much finer pixel pitch plus ever-larger screen sizes means that any transmitted programming needs extra detail well beyond today’s ‘HDTV’ material, hence the ‘super’ or ‘ultra’ tag, which takes line resolution to 4000 (Super-HD) or 8000 (Ultra-HD) lines and a resolution of 7680 x 4320 pixel per screen. © Rapid TV News 2010
