HARMAN KARDON’S NEW DVD 21
Château du Loir (France), Sept 5, 2002—Harman Kardon announces the
launch in October 2002 of a new versatile single-disc DVD player. The DVD 21
combines latest video technologies with Harman Kardon's traditional attention to
audio-circuitry detail and a new slim design.
A host of features such as the Wolfson 24-bit/192kHz digital-to-analog converter,
direct RGB (via Scart), S-Video and composite video outputs as well as easy-touse
menu systems make it the ideal DVD player for the most sophisticated homeentertainment
systems.
The DVD 21 includes built-in MP3 decoding from CD discs and can play back
DVD, DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs, both CD-R and CD-RW discs, CDs
as well as VCD and S-VCD discs. The DVD 21 will join the DVD 25 launched
recently to enlarge Harman Kardon's offer of DVD players.
The DVD 21 is compatible with both Dolby* Digital and DTS 5.1-channel discs.
It includes coaxial and optical digital outputs, plus standard down-mixed analog
audio outputs and a down-mixed stereo headphone output for private listening.
Harman Kardon DVD 21 takes user convenience to a new level. Its
comprehensive, easy-to-use on-screen-menu system and full-function, back-lit
remote control make initial setup and operation simple and intuitive. The player
offers a wide variety of viewing options, such as multiple-aspect-ratio selection
(wide screen 16:9 or standard 4:3), multiple viewing angles, a choice of multiplelanguage
soundtracks and subtitles, and still and motion digital zoom.
The DVD 21 also provides a number of picture search and scanning options,
such as 4-Speed Smooth Scan (x2, x4, x16, x100), 4-Speed Super Fine Slow
Motion (x1/2, x1/4, x1/16 and x1/100) and frame-by-frame advance, along with a
choice of program-play and repeat-play options.
Additional convenience functions include a video test screen, firmware
upgradeability and a light control system. The test screen shows color and
grayscale bars as well as 100% black/white fields on the screen, enabling the
user to optimally adjust all the important parameters of the TV screen, projector
or other display device.
To avoid light pollution when watching a movie, the DVD 21 features a selectable
light control system to automatically dim the display when no buttons are
pressed.
The Harman Kardon DVD 21 is available in October 2002.
