Europe is on the cusp of a wide-ranging HDTV boom. According to research from Strategy Analytics, sales of HD TV and video equipment will leap 158 per cent this year, with over 28 million products expected to be sold. And this is just the start. In 2006, only 8 per cent of homes had an HD screen, but come 2012, 70 per cent of homes will have at least one HDTV, with 53 per cent owning some form of HD disc or media player.
Says director Peter King: “The trend toward high definition TV and video is being driven by surging demand for LCD and plasma TVs, the vast majority of which are capable of displaying HD. Awareness of HD is growing all the time which will feed sales of Blu-ray Disc players, camcorders and other HD devices.”
