HDMI Licensing, LLC, the agent responsible for High-Definition Multimedia Interface licensing, announced the launch of a suite of tools and educational programs designed specifically to help the installer community install home theater systems that utilize the HDMI specification. They are currently hosting a HDMI TechZone at CES and will feature devices that have already adopted the HDMI Technology. The highlight will be a presentation using a Mitsubishi 73-inch DLP HDTV previewing a new form of 3D content , optimized using the HDMI interconnect.
HDMI is fast becoming the standard for digital connectivity in various high-definition consumer electronics like HDTVs, DVD players, A/V receivers, and set-top boxes. The HDMI digital interface standard was developed by Hitachi, Panasonic, Philips, Silicon Image, Sony, Thomson, and Toshiba to combine uncompressed high-definition video and multichannel audio into a single digital interface with crystal-clear digital quality over a single cable. It is now being promoted by HDMI Licensing, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Silicon Image.
The new program aims at helping installers tackle issues they face while installing HDMI, something that is new for installers who are used to working with analog connections. In order to facilitate this, the new tools available will include a easily accessible Knowledge Base that provides useful information and tips to resolve installation issues and questions. Also available is a dedicated web-based installer area on the HDMI Licensing Website, which features webinars developed by HDMI Licensing, specifically for the installer community. There is also a section of case studies of home theater installations, which describe first-experiences on HDMI with tips, recommended products, techniques, and other crucial info for installers.
