The first in andante's three-volume series documenting Igor Stravinsky as both composer and performer, this unique three-CD set features his early, revolutionary scores: the Rite of Spring, The Firebird and Petrushka, as well as the striking, in-his-prime works Pulcinella, Les noces and L'histoire du soldat, among much else. He leads first recordings of many of the pieces here, with the sessions dating from 1932–1947. In addition to appearing as conductor on the recordings, Stravinsky plays solo piano in Ragtime and serves as the soloist in the Concerto for Piano and Winds. For maximum sonic impact, the vintage 78s were digitally remastered using the CAP 400 technique by Art & Sons Studios in Paris.

The beautifully illustrated, 84-page companion book features fascinating, rarely seen images of Stravinsky and his milieu. The documentation includes an introduction by Pulitzer Prize–winner Tim Page, an essay by Stravinsky's amanuensis/protege Robert Craft and articles from the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians. All texts appear in English, French and German.
