Matt Damon returns to his most iconic role in "Jason Bourne." Paul Greengrass, the director of "The Bourne Supremacy" and "The Bourne Ultimatum," once again joins Damon for the next chapter of Universal Pictures’ Bourne franchise, which finds the CIA’s most lethal former operative drawn out of the shadows.

For "Jason Bourne," Damon is joined by Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel and Tommy Lee Jones, while Julia Stiles reprises her role in the series. Frank Marshall again produces alongside Jeffrey Weiner for Captivate Entertainment, and Greengrass, Damon, Gregory Goodman and Ben Smith also produce. Based on characters created by Robert Ludlum, the film is written by Greengrass and Christopher Rouse.

Julia Stiles gets Re-Bourne opposite Matt Damon

Production is getting ready to move forward on a new, currently untitled Jason Bourne film that will feature the return of Academy Award-winning actor Matt Damon to the title role with The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum helmer Paul Greengrass back in the director’s chair. Now, it seems that another familiar franchise character will also be back. Deadline is reporting that Julia Stiles is set to reprise her role as CIA Agent Nicky Parsons. Stiles played the part in the first three films in the franchise, but she did not return for the Jeremy Renner-led The Bourne Legacy.

Little is known about the plot of the new film, although it has been confirmed that it will not feature a crossover between Damon’s Bourne and Renner’s Aaron Cross.

Stiles, nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance as Lumen Ann Pierce on Showtime’s “Dexter,” recently played a supporting role in David O. Russel’s acclaimed drama, Silver Linings Playbook.

Alicia Vikander confirmed for Bourne sequel, not in Assassin’s Creed

Looks like it’s a game of musical chairs for rising Danish star Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina) as she heads from one expert assassin to another. After word in May that the actress was in contention for lead roles in both 20th Century Fox’s Assassin’s Creed and Universal’s Bourne 5, Deadline confirms that Vikander will star opposite Matt Damon in the fifth installment of the Jason Bourne saga. She will not, however, be joining Michael Fassbender in Fox’s video game adaptation.

Assassin’s Creed will lens in August, so it will now have to find another leading lady quickly, but that was probably foreseen as Frank Marshall (Jurassic World) is a producer on both projects.

Vikander has a multitude of projects currently awaiting release, including Warner Bros.’ The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Tom Hooper’s The Danish Girl, Justin Chadwick’s Tulip Fever, John Wells’ Adam Jones opposite Bradley Cooper, and Derek Cianfrance’s The Light Between Oceans opposite Fassbender.

Tommy Lee Jones joins Bourne 5

Cameras are just about ready to roll on the new, currently-untitled Jason Bourne film that will feature the return of Academy Award-winning actor Matt Damon to the title role with The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum helmer Paul Greengrass back in the director’s chair. Today, Variety brings word that Damon will have a fellow Academy Award winner starring opposite him as Tommy Lee Jones has just signed on for a role.

Jones recently co-wrote, directed and starred in The Homesman, based on the Glendon Swarthout novel. He’ll next star in the sci-fi tinged action thriller Criminal, starring opposite Gary Oldman, Ryan Reynolds, Kevin Costner, Alice Eve and Gal Gadot. Although his Bourne 5 role has not yet been revealed, the trade suggests that he’ll be playing a high-ranking CIA officer.

Bourne 5: Matt Damon gives new plot and locale details

Cameras are just about ready to roll on the new, currently-untitled Jason Bourne film that will feature the return of Academy Award-winning actor Matt Damon to the title role with The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum helmer Paul Greengrass back in the director’s chair. Now BuzzFeed has talked to the actor about what we can expect in terms of plot and location in Bourne 5, which he is co-writing with Greengrass and Christopher Rouse.

“Without giving too much of it away, it’s Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world,” Damon said. “It seems like enough has changed, you know? There are all these kinds of arguments about spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy.”

As for what far-off locales the story will see this post-Snowden Bourne whisked off to, Damon will be returning to a city very familiar to Ocean’s Eleven fans.

“We’re starting in Greece, you know, the beginning of democracy,” he said. “And the movie ends in Las Vegas, the most grotesque incarnation of….” [trails off laughing]

Vincent Cassel will menace Matt Damon in new Bourne movie

Variety reports that Vincent Cassel (Black Swan, Ocean’s Thirteen) will play the villain in the new Bourne movie, in which he will menace returning star Matt Damon. Details are slim about what Cassel’s role will be, but the outlet notes he’s playing an assassin on the trail of Jason Bourne.

Production is now underway on the new Bourne movie! According to the trade, Riz Ahmed will play a CIA tech specialist.
