Justice League rumored for page-one rewrite

The future of Warner Bros.' big screen superhero ensemble Justice League appears to be a bit up in the air today as Badass Digest reports the rumor that the studio has elected not to move forward with Will Beall's take on the screenplay and will now bring in new writers to reexamine the property.

Although the film was initially rumored for a 2015 release, recent reports from Warner Bros. suggest that Justice League's big screen potential hinges on the success of their upcoming Man of Steel. Unofficial buzz about the Zack Snyder film has been very postive, however, and it's possible that, if rumors of a page-one rewrite do pan out, the reason is simply to make the ensemble fit more in tone with Snyder's vision.

Is Christopher Nolan developing the Justice League film?

The road to the Justice League film hasn't been easy for Warner Bros. After it was revealed that the film would hit theaters in 2015, it came to light that the script for the film had been scrapped and they were having to start over. Enter the latest rumor on the project...

Latino Review is reporting that Warner Bros. has approached Christopher Nolan to take over everything related to their DC Comics properties. They allege that Nolan will be involved in the development and will produce all of the DC superheroes. They also say they are working toward having Christian Bale reprise his role as Bruce Wayne from The Dark Knight series to join up with Henry Cavill in the Justice League film and that Man of Steel director Zack Snyder will also produce and may direct the project.

Take this with a grain of salt, however, as there has been no confirmation from the studio or anyone else that any of this is true.

Warner Bros. President says Christopher Nolan is not involved with Justice League

One of the juiciest rumors to come out in the past few months was that Christopher Nolan, the director of The Dark Knight trilogy, would be shepherding the Justice League movie at Warner Bros. We're sad to report that this was a case of 'too good to be true' as EW has confirmed with Warner Bros. President Jeff Robinov that this rumor is not true.

When asked if it was true that Nolan would be bringing the project to life with his former Batman Christian Bale, he left no room for interpretation and simply said "No, it's not."

Christopher Nolan's representatives also confirmed that Nolan was never involved with the project and is working solely on his upcoming film Interstellar.

We know you were really looking forward to this, but take heart that it would appear the film is still on track to eventually get made. Man of Steel producer Chris Roven says the upcoming Superman reboot will pave the way for future films.

"It's setting the tone for what the movies are going to be like going forward, In that, Man of Steel is definitely a first step. Nolan's Dark Knight series was deliberately and smartly positioned as a stand-alone. The world the films lived in was very isolated, without any knowledge of other superheroes. What Zack and Chris have done with this film is allow you to really introduce other characters into the same world."

Henry Cavill talks about the difficulty of making Justice League work

Ever since production began on Man of Steel, the rumblings of Justice League have always been present. The rumors of it coming in the future have placed the film as soon as 2015 or even later on down the pipeline. Now, Superman himself, Henry Cavill, spoke with Peter Travers about the future of the DCU on film and he thinks we all should be a little more patient.

"Justice League, more movies, I have no idea. Justice League could be great if done correctly. It's a very tough one to do because the DC comic heroes are all god-like in their power. So in this real world setting we're telling our story in, it's going to be tough to achieve that and it has to be done very delicately with a lot of thought. So, it won't be right away, I hope it's not anyway. It may take some time of building up other movies and other characters and introducing them together in one way or another. I think it would be great to do, but I don't think it's around the corner."

Christian Bale says he will NOT be in the Justice League movie

Since before Man of Steel was released and the speculation for a Justice League movie hit an all time high, many fans have been wondering if Christian Bale will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman in the ensemble film. We now have a direct answer from the man, and it's not the one you wanted to hear.

“We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman films]. That’s enough. Let’s not get greedy,” Bale told EW. “Chris [Nolan] always said he wanted to make it one film at a time. And we ended up sitting there looking at each other, saying ‘We’re about to make the third.’ We never really knew if we were going to get to be there, but if that was how it was going to be, this was where it should end as well.”

”I have no information, no knowledge about anything. I’ve literally not had a conversation with a living soul. I understand that they may be making a Justice League movie, that’s it. It’s a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with.”

There's been no official word about when a Justice League film might happen, but some sources say it could be as early as 2015. Man of Steel star Henry Cavill seems to think they should take their time and make it really worth it for the fans.

Zack Snyder officially set to direct Justice League!

A Justice League feature film is not only officially on track today, but has also announced a director. The Wall Street Journal reports that Man of Steel helmer Zack Snyder will make the ensemble blockbuster his follow-up to 2016's Batman vs. Superman.

"It will be a further expansion of this universe," Warner Bros. president of worldwide production Greg Silverman tells the outlet. "'Superman vs Batman' will lead into 'Justice League.'"

Although no Justice League cast is official at this stage, the project is likely to again star Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Ray Fisher as Cyborg (with a view that other JLAers are expected to be announced in the future).

The article also offers a slightly less optimistic update on the status of a Wonder Woman solo film, noting that, while the studio is open to the idea, they feel the right script has not yet been found.

UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit posted the following tweet, indicating that Batman vs. Superman and Justice League will shoot back to back and that we may see the latter as early as 2017.

Get a first look at Cyborg and The Flash in Justice League art!

Warner Bros. Pictures has revealed a new promotional image for their DC Films Presents: The Dawn of the Justice League special (via the new DC Films Facebook page) and with it comes our first look at both Cyborg and The Flash, set to be played by Ray Fisher and Ezra Miller, respectively, in some fresh new Justice League art! One curiosity is the absence of Green Lantern in the image, leaving the “Unite the Seven” tagline from the previously-released Aquaman art one member shy of its goal. Check out the image below!

Zack Snyder offers a giant Justice League tease in new photo!

It was announced earlier that Warner Bros. Pictures‘ upcoming Justice League film was set to officially begin production on April 11, and now director Zack Snyder has shared a new image from Leavesden Studios with star Jason Mamoa and several other Easter eggs! Close examination of the Justice League tease reveals not only the full Aquaman costume, but also a glimpse of The Flash costume, and a portrait of what looks like Aquaman’s wife Mera in the background. J.K. Simmons joins Justice League: Part One as commissioner Gordon!

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the cast for Justice League: Part One has just added another member to its cast with J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon! It’s unclear what role the character will have in the film, but since Ben Affleck’s Batman has been operating for many years in Gotham, it’s to be expected that the two know each other.

Zack Snyder talks dead Robin, teases Darkseid in Justice League

As Batman v Superman continues to dominate the global box office (it added $7.7 million on Thursday in North America for a domestic total of $209 million), we can confirm that justice has dawned and in just ten days, cameras will officially roll on the long-awaited Justice League movie. Speaking with The Empire Film Podcast, director Zack Snyder was asked about the film’s previously-teased villain Darkseid and offered a brief teaser.

“Maybe he exists out there in the universe,” Snyder facetiously said. “Maybe he’s looking for something. Something that is against life?”

That “thing” of course would be the Anti-Life Equation, Darkseid’s ultimate goal in the universe. The Anti-Life Equation is a formula that allows someone to control all sentient beings in the universe.

A further tease for Justice League came from the viral marketing of Batman v Superman‘s LexCorp, which “announced” they would be “temporarily suspending it’s global operations.” Lex Luthor even provided a comment, saying: “Ding, ding, ding, ding. Are we entering the second round?”

Speaking of something against life, Snyder also spoke to IGN about the dead Robin suit seen in the film and presented his thoughts on when he thinks the Boy Wonder met his end.

“In my mind, it was that Robin had died about 10 years earlier in some run-in with a young Joker,” Snyder said. “So there was an interest to me, sort of a fun backstory to play with. I felt like the whole idea was there had been loss and there had been sacrifice. In a weird way he’s sacrificed everything to be Batman, he doesn’t really have a life outside the cave. I thought that by including a dead Robin it was helping us understand he’s been on quite a little journey.”

Willem Dafoe joins Justice League in a mystery role!

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Willem Dafoe has joined the cast of Warner Bros.‘ upcoming Justice League movie. It’s unclear what character he’ll be playing in the movie, though the outlet notes that he won’t be playing a villain but a “good guy,” which doesn’t necessarily mean another superhero.

Jeremy Irons’ Alfred returning for Justice League

Jeremy Irons will be returning as Alfred in the Zack Snyder-directed Justice League: Part One, the actor told Showbiz 411. Irons can currently be seen in theaters as Alfred in Warner Bros. Pictures‘ Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which has earned over $856 million worldwide.

Warner Bros. Pictures today revealed a first look at the Justice League logo and the first photo of the Batmobile from the highly-anticipated 2017 film. You can view both the Justice League logo and Batmobile in the below. In addition, the official synopsis for the film has been released and reads as follows:

Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot will be reprising their roles as the DC Trinity, Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman in Justice League, and joining them are Jason Mamoa as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, and Ezra Miller as The Flash. Amber Heard is set to play Queen Mera in the film as well before moving to the solo Aquaman movie in 2018, with Willem Dafoe appearing in a mystery role, and J.K. Simmons playing Commissioner Gordon.

Directed by Zack Snyder (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Justice League will debut in theaters on November 10, 2017.

New Justice League movie details revealed

Production continues on the upcoming Justice League movie in London and new details on the 2017 sequel have made their way online.

Joblo brings word that the film is no longer a “Part One” as Warner Bros. originally announced but instead a standalone movie with a “lighter tone” than the previous two films. The film’s basic plot surrounds the formation of the titular group, a wholly unique story line for a superhero movie, while also seeing them pursue three Mother Boxes on Earth. These Mother Boxes will also be just sitting on our planet waiting for the film’s main villain, Steppenwolf, to come and get them and have been for some time apparently as The Amazonians and Atlanteans will each have their own. For what purpose, only the plot knows.

Regarding the heroes that compose the team, Ben Affleck’s Batman will be gaining a new vehicle called “The Flying Fox” to transport his teammates in; a tank-like vehicle called “The Nightcrawler;” but also an updated armor and a new suit by the film’s end, whose differences will be unseen as they’ll be underneath his current costume. The Flash will have cobbled together his initial costume in the film with pieces of stolen tech, including heating tiles as seen on the bottom of the space shuttle. Cyborg’s costume will be 100% CGI and Wonder Woman’s is the same as seen in Batman v Superman. Willem Dafoe has also been confirmed to be playing the role of Vulko, an Atlantean that is Aquaman’s mentor.

Gizmodo also has a breakdown of a scene from the film featuring Bruce Wayne’s initial contact with Barry Allen and recruitment into the Justice League. The site reports Barry Allen returns to his ‘warehouse’-sized apartment to find Bruce Wayne waiting for him and holding a photo of the Flash video we saw in Dawn of Justice. The pair exchange dialogue:

“That’s a person who looks exactly like me but is definitely not,” Allen replies. “Hippie, long hair, very attractive Jewish boy. He drinks milk, I don’t drink milk.” he jokes as Wayne starts to walk over to a red suit standing in the apartment.

“I know you have abilities, I just don’t know what they are,” says Wayne.

“My special skills include viola, web design…” Allen rambles as Wayne examines the suit and notes it’s made of a very specific heat resistant material. “Yeah, I do competitive ice dancing,” Allen says.

“This is the stuff the space shuttle uses to prevent from burning up on reentry.”

“…Very competitive ice dancing?”

Just then, the film turns to slow-motion as Bruce Wayne hurls one of the razor-sharp, bat-logo-shaped throwing stars he used in BvS at Allen. Allen looks at it inquisitively as it passes him in slow motion then, with a profound realization, grabs it out of the air. Silence, surprise, and then: “You’re the Batman?”

“And you’re fast.”

“That feels like an oversimplification.”

Bruce tells Allen he’s putting together a team of people with special abilities because he believes enemies are coming. Barry immediately wants to be part of it, and Batman can’t help but ask why he’s agreed so quickly. “I need friends,” says Barry, just before holding up the throwing-bat/star. “Can I keep this?”

Finally, Ben Affleck confirmed that he will direct the upcoming solo Batman movie but that he won’t begin production on it until the script is ready.

Henry Cavill teases black Superman costume for Justice League movie

Following the conclusion of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, fans had an idea of what to expect from Henry Cavill’s Superman in the upcoming Justice League movie and the star may have just offered a first look at his character’s new costume.

Cavill took to Instagram today to share a new photo of what appears to be the black version of his Superman costume, confirming that the character’s return will feature the same dark outfit he wore in the comics. Coincidentally, a black version of his Man of Steel costume was made as a toy when the film was released in 2013, and now appears to be making its way to film. Check it out below!
