Onkyo has unveiled a new micro CD receiver that also plays DVD, SACD and DVD-Audio discs.

Designed for people who don’t have the space to accommodate a full-size Universal DVD player, receiver and multi-channel speaker system, the micro-sized Onkyo DR-815 is a 2 or 2.1-channel home entertainment system (to which you need to add your own speakers) costing just £275.

This iPod-compatible, 2-channel desktop receiver’s universal DVD transport will play MP3, WMA, and JPEG files as well as the formats mentioned already, with Dolby ProLogic II processing built in allowing the receiver to derive convincing 5.1-channel audio from stereo soundtracks.

All channels feature high quality 192 kHz/24-bit D/A converters, augmented with Onkyo's exclusive Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry (VLSC) to deliver clear analogue outputs to the unit’s internal WRAT-equipped (Onkyo’s Wide Range Amplifier Technology) amplifier modules.

What’s more, for people who think they might want to expand the system to a full 5.1-configuration at a later stage, the DR-815 provides rear-panel pre-out connections on the back panel; just add external power amplifiers and you’re away.

Finally, the DR-815 can be hooked to your TV via an RGB Scart, composite/S-Video outputs or Component Video connections.
