Teufel recently visited Home Cinema Choice to exclusively preview its latest designer home cinema speakers, and exclusively tease upcoming technology.
The German direct-seller's striking new range of 5.1 systems are built around thin, column speakers, but (and here's the twist) the company say they are optimised for two-channel playback.
The £1,074 Columa 700 is a 5.1 speaker package built around four distinctive high gloss aluminium speakers, a pod-like centre and 150 watt subwoofer.
'These systems are very design orientated,' says Teufel's managing engineer Christoph Winklmeier, 'but they also have a huge power output.'
Integrated system
The 700 package is also available with an amplifier integrated into the sub, dubbed the 700R (pictured right), for £1,209. The featured 300w amp has DD5.1 and DTS decoding and AM/FM radio.
The 700 will be joined by the high-end Columa 900, which features four tallboy speakers just 8.3cm deep.
Unlike its cheaper stablemate, the slimline centre is designed to be wall-mounted.
Winklmeier dismisses any disparity in sound across the front soundstage, saying that the system has been optimised for stereo performance, although it's obviously ideal for 5.1 surround.
The system sells for £1,298.
Both packages are available from www.teufel.com, where prices are quotes in eruos. Andreas Maschlanka, Teufel's director of Marketing admits that the drastic euro-sterling currency fluctuations are making life difficult for potential UK buyers, but he told HCC that he hopes to roll-out a new webshop with stable sterling prices this summer.
World's smallest THX Ultra2 speakers
Teufel (it roughly translates to 'music devil') also revealed to HCC that it was about to enter the hotly contested soundbar market. Florian Szigat says 'the Cineba 50 soundbar is a two channel design, with a separate subwoofer featuring a 10in driver and integrated 150w amp, and Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 decoding.' The soundbar will come with remote control, USB input for playing portable media files.
The company also exclusively revealed to HCC that it will be introducing new THX certified speakers during the Summer, including 'probably' the world's smallest THX Ultra2 system. More news as we get it...
