What is a Phasx Monitor System?


Our PX Series monitors are DSP driven electro-acoustic engines designed to present their users with the same caliber of audio evaluation quality you would expect to find in a first class commercial recording studio’s control room.

All Phasx audio recording monitor systems are purpose built to operate on a standard desktop in a home-office type environment, with little to no acoustic treatment in the room outside of normal household furnishings. Of course they work amazing in professional and project studio environments too.

Acoustic Treatment Built In.

Presenting Shadocaster …the anti-near field reflection system that “paints” a reflection free zone on the desktop. The result is a startlingly clear audio image.

This level of detail and dynamics is almost never heard outside of a carefully designed acoustic space; and never for less than tens of thousands of dollars in equipment and acoustic treatment.


Smart APP Based Monitor Control

All monitor controller features are built in to our Phasx monitor APPs. They run on most smart phones and tablets, and are available as free downloads for all Phasx owners.

In addition to the monitor and simulation switching mentioned above, Phasx monitor apps provide highly accurate level and loudness information (critical for mastering), headphone listening, and of course modelling.

Wizard guided system set-up, maintenance, trouble-shooting, system firmware updates, and room EQ, are among many other included features.


Beauty is More Than Skin Deep

We've literally spent years tuning DSP code, evaluating transducers, amplifiers, and IC components to get the level of quality we demand.

All Phasx audio production suites use the XMOS USB 2 high resolution audio solution, Analog Devices DSP, and outrageous tweeters designed and built exclusively for Phasx.

The PX600 uses custom Hypex NCoreTM power amplifiers and top of the line Cirrus Logic & Burr-Brown DACs. PX300 uses top of the line amps and DACS too the likes of which are seen only in monitors costing at least 5 times the price of the entire PX300 system.

Shadocaster
Patent Protected Anti-Nearfield Reflection System

Placing a speaker and a your head over the same surface (which happens in every desktop setup) has a predictable and adverse side effect. The desktop reflection arrives at your ears about .75 ms after the direct audio signal you want to hear; creating a comb filter effect.

This very short delay between the direct audio and arrival of the reflected desktop audio causes the brain to "filter" the entire signal. This is the comb filter effect which decimates female vocals and virtually the entire midrange frequency spectrum from; 2kHz to around 8kHz!

Shadocaster is a deceptively simple “shelf” under each of the desktop drivers, which simply deflects the would-be desktop reflection, and sends it elsewhere. The reflection comes back to the user much later and at a much lower level. As a result the human brain, with an event integration time of approximately 7 ms to 10 ms, does NOT associate it with the direct audio.

By implementing Shadocaster with a desktop audio workstation the perception of comb filtering is completely eliminated. Frequency response anomalies are typically reduced by more than 25 dB and speaker performance is dramatically enhanced by Shadocaster at the listening position and the desktop reflection is attenuated by over 20 dB.
