Pioneer Beginning sometime next month, Pioneer will offer their new BDR-205 Blu-ray Writer to system integrators, a Blu-ray Disc drive that offers an amazing 12X write speed for both single and dual layer Blu-ray media. This SATA drive will also features up to 16X DVD and 40X CD burning speeds, as well as reading capability for all three media.
Steve Cohn, Pioneer Electronics Director of Optical Disc Sales, commented, "The BDR-205 drive represents our ongoing efforts to combine Pioneer's engineering expertise with advanced technologies, and our next generation Blu-ray Disc writer is a great example of our no-compromise approach to optical disc product development."
Those looking to take advantage of the 12x write capability will have to choose their media wisely. Pioneer was able to reach 12x write speeds with both single and dual layer Panasonic media, while the Sony media was only able to achieve that speed with the single layer offering.
For those looking to upgrade their existing machine, the drive will be made available to retailers early 2010 for an MSRP of $250.
