Luke Bracey to play Johnny Utah in Point Break remake

Luke Bracey will join Gerard Butler in Alcon Entertainment's remake of the classic 1991 action-thriller Point Break, it was announced by Alcon co-founders and co-CEOs Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.

Bracey will play the role of Johnny Utah (played by Keanu Reeves in the original), a young FBI agent who goes undercover to infiltrate a criminal gang in the world of international extreme sports. Ericson Core (Invincible) is directing Kurt Wimmer's (Salt, Law Abiding Citizen, Total Recall) screenplay.

Ray Winstone to play Pappas in Point Break remake

Although the movie lost Gerard Butler as Bodhi earlier this week, Point Break is moving forward and has announced a new cast member according to Deadline. Ray Winstone has been cast as Pappas, who was originally played by Gary Busey in the 1991 movie.

Edgar Ramirez catches Point Break

Following the departure of leading man Gerard Butler from the project last week, director Ericson Core's Point Break remake is now said to be targeting Zero Dark Thirty star Edgar Ramirez for the role of Bodhi, the character made famous by Patrick Swayze in the original film. The announcement was made this morning by Alcon Entertainment co-founders and co-CEOs Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove.

States Kosove and Johnson: “We consider Edgar one of the finest actors in the world today and we are thrilled he will be creating a fresh new take on the iconic character of Bodhi.”

Ramirez recently wrapped filming on Hands of Stone, the Roberto Duran biopic in which he plays the title character, starring opposite Robert DeNiro. He next stars in Screen Gems' Deliver Us From Evil with Eric Bana and headlines the epic The Liberator, on which he also serves as an executive producer.

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the Point Break trailer and poster which you can view below! Inspired by the classic 1991 hit starring Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves, the film is scheduled for release in 3D and 2D theaters on December 25.

New Point Break poster & featurette takes you to surfing’s bleeding edge

While the previously-released trailer for Warner Bros. Pictures’ Point Break remake de-emphasized the surfing aspect in favor of other extreme sports, a new featurette goes in-depth on the practical surfing stunts the filmmakers pulled off, with many of the stuntmen suffering real injuries to capture the realism.
