Promitheus Audio's Malaysian Apollo preamp [$1,000] combines their TVC with their active tube preamp in a single chassis. The TVC sports 6dB of transformer gain but can be ordered with 12dB. The transformer-coupled, choke-regulated tube outputs run two NOS 6N1Ps. The solid Merbau wood chassis has 2 RCA i/o/ports each and one true balanced XLR input and output. A separate power supply runs an NOS 5Y3 rectifier. VCaps are used as bypass and Ebony knobs adorn the transformer volume control. For an extra $200, the output transformers can be upgraded to M3 C cores. Tube rollers can substitute 6922, 6DJ8, 6H23, 7308 without altering gain, 6CG7 and 6FQ7 to lower gain and 6BQ7 to raise gain. The Apollo can be run as a pure passive or the tube gain stage can be switched in to follow the transformer volume controls. Orders are fulfilled factory-direct through the website.
