MUNICH, Germany (May 11, 2015) – Led by the team that created the industry defining Sooloos media control system, the newly formed Roon Labs is set to debut its first product at Munich High End 2015. Simply called Roon, it is a software service that redefines how music lovers search through, interact with, and explore their music collections and subscription services, in one unified interface.

In my experience, you really don't know what you're missing until Roon shows you through the use of continually evolving dynamic metdata.Roon identifies all the files in your local and streaming music library, then finds a world of information – bios, photos, credits, reviews, concert info, and more – to weave an interface filled with images, information, and links. It creates a surfable, searchable digital magazine to browse and play back your collection.Currently, Roon supports all PCM formats up to 24/384 in WAV, AIFF, FLAC, ALAC, OGG, MP3, and AAC formats. DSD support will be added in the future.

Roon runs on Mac and PC and these versions are available beginning today. The iOS and Android versions will be available soon. Roon is sold on yearly subscription basis for $119/year or $499 for a lifetime membership. There's also a 14-day free trial.

Classical Music Done Right
From the advent of recording, all the richness and complexity of the classical repertoire have been uncomfortably shoehorned into organization by artist, album, and track.

In Roon, composers are people who create works, which are in turn performed by ensembles and soloists, with conductors. You can browse a composer’s works, read information about where and when each work was written, its form and instrumentation, and then compare recordings of various performances of the work, along with information about where and when it was recorded.

A World of Genres
A single genre like Pop, Rock, or Jazz isn't useful to describe music. Roon creates a multi-layered, detailed genre system to explore your collection in new ways.

Audiophile Reproduction
Not only does Roon support most audio file formats, sample rates, and bit rates, but delivering bit-perfect audio to your rendering hardware is central to the design of its playback engine.

At any time, you can view the entire signal path, from source file or stream type, through internal DSP processing (of your choice), to the type of connection to your audio equipment. And soon we will add features such as DSD Playback and MQA support.

Focus on Your Music
Exploring all this information about your music is only part of the picture; what's just as exciting is the ability to use that information to enhance your browsing experience.

Focus lets you browse in all new ways, by filtering and sorting based on any of the data Roon has acquired. For example, you might want to see music in a particular genre, but only recorded during a certain timeframe, or only featuring a particular performer, or only at a certain bit/sample rate, or all of the above. This is Focus.

Truly Personal Radio
Our radio isn’t made up of tracks with similar tempo or instrumentation. It’s based on relationships between performers and composers, starting from tracks you choose.

Based on your music collection and your listening history, Roon finds insights into your music and brings them out in a magazine-like format. Roon works with some of the best audio hardware available, but almost no one has a top-shelf system in every room.

Whether listening on a high-end DAC, on your laptop with earbuds, on a computer with a headphone amp, or on an AirPlay streamer, Roon gives you a flexible, future-proof multi-room system without the need for costly proprietary hardware, so you can mix and match to build the system that works for you. And our architecture will allow this capability to grow as new formats are available and we support more formats.

How do you let your whole family enjoy music and share it around the the home? Roon can be used by one person or an entire household without a degree in networking.

Roon can watch multiple folders on multiple networked devices, and each user can have their own profile, so everyone in a household can have their own favorites, play history, recommendations, and playlists. Πολύ ενδιαφέρον αλλά με 120$ τον χρόνο χωρίς dsd (προς το παρόν) και με την απαίτηση δέσμευσης σε κάποιο πακέτο πριν καν το δοκιμάσει κανείς (με δυνατότητα υπαναχώρησης εντός 14 ηημερων) Πιστεύω ότι δεν θα γίνει το νέο στάνταρ με ευκολία. Βέβαια είναι το μόνο με ενσωμάτωση του Tidal σε οικιακό υπολογιστή και ίσως να γίνει και πλατφόρμα αποκωδικοποίησης του απατου προς το παρόν Mqa format της Meridian μένει πάντως να δείξει κατά πόσο θα περπατήσει έτσι μόνο του. Πιστεύω ότι έχει μεγαλύτερες ελπίδες με τιμή κάτω από το ψυχολογικό όριο των 100$ τον χρόνο και πληρωμή με τον μήνα σαν option στο Tidal. Μένει να φανεί πως θα εξελιχτεί το πράγμα. Πάντως ένα είναι το σιγουρο. Μετά τον εκδημοκρατισμό του καλού ήχου με την αυλή Ψηφιακή επανάσταση το επόμενο big thing θα είναι το on line streaming και η διαχείριση ψηφιακών αρχείων που θα φέρι και φρέσκο "μαρουλι" στην βιομηχανία του ήχου και της μουσικής.

'We're very excited to announce that Roon 1.3 is going live today! This is our most ambitious release ever – in the works for nearly nine months – but we think it's been worth the wait. With new streaming hardware support, audio processing, DSP, file handling, metadata management, and social sharing, there are new features and improvements in almost every area of the product.

We've incorporated hundreds of suggestions from you, and thrown in a few of our own:

"With the 1.3 update, Roon now streams to Sonos devices! This means all the users in a home – with one app and one music collection – can play music to Sonos, Airplay, Squeezebox, Sooloos, and any of over 50 Roon Ready devices available today.

We've added a whole family of audio and DSP features with a 64-bit audio pipeline, including dynamic range analysis, EQ, upsampling, crossfeed for headphones, and adjustments for headroom as well as corrections for speaker phase and delay.

Roon learns about you as you use it. You create playlists, tags, and groom your collection to be presented just the way you want. Now all of that can be automatically backed up, both locally and to Dropbox. Backups are incremental and configurable, so you can save as much history as you like. Roon users have been talking about their favorite music on our community site, on social networks, and even by texting screenshots from their phones. With 1.3, you can create shareable images about artists, albums, and songs, including all of Roon's metadata and your own comments. Images can be posted directly to Facebook, Twitter, and Imgur, or saved to your device. Starting with a new lightning-fast search, we've improved performance across the board.
