Sharp is celebrating after becoming the first LCD screen manufacturer to have its TVs certified by THX. The US quality-assurance outfit has certified the brand’s T Series AQUOS LV-65TH1 and LV-52TH1 models under the THX Certified Display program, maintaining they meet THX standards for “exceptional video quality and peak playback performance.”
Sharp has also unveiled a line of ultra-slim LCD TVs in the US, ahead of the Berlin IFA. Its new D64 series are 25 per cent slimmer than their predecessors, with ultra-thin bezels and ’stealth’speakers; they originate from the brand’s advanced Kameyama 2 panel-making facility in Japan. By re-engineering the internal layout of the screens, the company says consumers can now accommodate a 46-inch LCD in the same floorspace as a competitors’ 42-inch model. Connectivity includes three HDMI v1.3 inputs, and contrast ratio is claimed to be 10,000:1.
