Sony has placed a September release date on a new all in one home cinema system, the DAV-X10, that claims to deliver full surround sound from just two small speakers and a compact subwoofer – and which looks mighty fine while it’s doing it!
The style element is certainly strong with the gloss-black design and invisible ‘light to the touch’ controls, and the convenience of the three-speaker arrangement is built on by the fact that the system will talk to Sony Ericsson WALKMAN® phones via Bluetooth, allowing you to play your personal mobile music collection through the X10’s speakers.
Other features of note include:
* HD upscaling via HDMI to 1080i
* Sony’s BRAVIA Theatre Sync technology, which gives true one-button operation of your entire system when connected via HDMI to a new Bravia TV. Press play on the DAV-X10 remote control and the TV will switch on and select the correct input; press off on the remote and the complete system will shut down too.
* Sony Digital Media Port (DMPORT) – a modular connector to which a number of external interfaces can be attached to receive your portable music or wireless signals. Supplied with the system is a DMPORT adapter for wireless Bluetooth communications, but the system also works with MP3 players such as the Sony Network WALKMAN, and even music stored on your VAIO computer can be streamed over a wireless home network, thanks to a range of optional DMPORT adapters.
* A Portable Audio Enhancer, which applies digital signal processing to expand the sound of compressed music files.
* Digital Cinema Auto Calibration – Plug in the supplied microphone, place it where you would normally sit and at the push of a button, the sound system sets itself up in 30 seconds.
* The slim line gloss black control unit (with glass top) plays DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, SACD, Video CD, DivX and MP3
* 480W total power: 2x80W to each speaker plus 2x80W for subwoofer, using 32-bit S-Master digital amplification
