Paramount Pictures looks like it's going to be the new home of The Terminator as The Wrap reports that Annapurna and Skydance are negotiating with the studio to team on the next entry in the blockbuster franchise.

Terminator 5 planning early 2014 production?

Terminator 5 may be on the way sooner than expected. Reporting from Arnold Schwarzenegger's 21st Century Financial Education Summit in Perth, Australia, TheArnoldFans.com brings an update to the state of the project which seems to mesh with yesterday's news of the franchise moving to Paramount Pictures.


"'Terminator 5' starts filming early 2014," they quote the star as having announced during his presentation.


Although specific quotes are not available, the site goes on to say that Schwarzenegger named January or February of 2014 for a potential start date and that he's set to receive the final screenplay for Terminator 5.

Arnold Schwarzenegger confirms his Terminator 5 role, names January start

Following up on yesterday's news regarding an early 2014 production start on Terminator 5, TheArnoldFans.com has managed to get their hands on even more information from Arnold Schwarzenegger regarding his involvement with the franchise sequel.


"I'm very happy that the studios want me to be in 'Terminator 5' and to star as the Terminator," he says, "...we start shooting in January and I'm also going to do 'King Conan'. To play that role and also to do another 'Twins' movie. I feel very proud of that. I feel very happy and I'm looking forward to doing those films."


Arnold's specific role in Terminator 5 has been one of some debate. Many fans have suggested that, because of his age, he might be playing a human character instead of the actual Terminator.

Dwayne Johnson joining Terminator 5?

Little is known about the upcoming Terminator 5 except that the film is happening. Now, a report form the WWE Examiner (via AICN) has some very possibly juicy details on the cast and its setting. They say that actor Dwayne Johnson is being courted to join the film but hasn't officially signed on. Production for the film is targeting a January start date, and with Johnson currently filming Hercules in Hungary, his schedule could line up properly to appear in the film.


The next chunk they have on the film is on the setting for the story. According to Examiner sources, the setting for Terminator 5 will be set before the birth of Sarah Connor and focus on her parents in the 1940s and 50s. This scenario would once again involve a Terminator(s) being sent back in time to kill a target, only this time it's decades before the attempts on Sarah and John Connor. None of this is confirmed at this time, but check back here for more information on the film in the future.

New Terminator trilogy to begin on June 26, 2015!

Skydance Productions, Annapurna Pictures and Paramount Pictures have jointly announced they will partner on a rebooted Terminator movie, to be released by Paramount Pictures on June 26, 2015.


The first in a stand-alone trilogy, Terminator will be produced by Megan Ellison of Annapurna and David Ellison of Skydance. Dana Goldberg and Paul Schwake of Skydance will serve as executive producers. Laeta Kalorgridis (Avatar, Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) are attached to write the screenplay.

Όχι μωρέ, δεν είναι οι ιδέες.

Προφανώς παίρνουν ένα πολύ αγαπητό και διάσημο franchise όπως το όνομα "Terminator", και το κάνουν reboot ακριβώς για να αναθερμάνουν το ενδιαφέρον του κοινού και ταυτόχρονα να βάλουν και τις καινούργιες γενιές να το μάθουν και να το αγαπήσουν και αυτοί.

Φυσικά και γίνεται αυτή η κίνηση και για τα λεφτά δεν το συζητώ καν, αλλά όπως κάνανε το ίδιο π.χ με το reboot του Spider-Man και ιδού τα $752,216,557 σε εισπράξεις που έβγαλε το καινούργιο The Amazing Spider-Man (και αυτή την στιγμή που μιλάμε γυρίζεται το The Amazing Spider-Man 2).

Προφανώς το studio κατάλαβε πως ο κόσμος έχει ξενερώσει λίγο με το πως είχε πάει η πλοκή στο Terminator: Salvation, οπότε σκέφτηκαν πως καλύτερη κίνηση (και πιο επικερδής εννοείται) θα ήταν το reboot από το να προσπαθήσουμε να συνεχίσουμε την ιστορία ενός ταλαιπωρημένου franchise.

Είμαι πάντως υπέρ της κίνησης αυτής του reboot, καθώς η τεχνολογία έχει προχωρήσει πολύ οπότε αναμένω πολύ πιο εντυπωσιακά εφέ (εύχομαι και βάση ενός καλού σεναρίου), αλλά πάντα με την παρουσία του αγαπημένου και ταυτόσημου με το όνομα "Terminator", Arnold Schwarzenegger στον πρωταγωνιστικό ρόλο.

Three actresses up for Sarah Connor role in Terminator reboot

With his Thor: The Dark World hitting theaters today, director Alan Taylor is already hard at work on the preproduction of his next film, Paramount Pictures, Skydance Productions and Annapurna Pictures' Terminator reboot. The Hollywood Reporter today confirms a scoop from Schmoes Know that a number of actresses are up for the Sarah Connor role, including Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke, 21 Jump Street's Brie Larson and About Time's Margot Robbie. The trade does make clear, however, that a fourth, unknown, actress is also being given heavy consideration.

Although no one has officially been cast in the franchise reboot, other roles are said to include both John Connor and Kyle Reese. The Dark Knight Rises star Tom Hardy is said to be Taylor's ideal for the former with TRON: Legacy's Garrett Hedlund among those reading for the latter.

Terminator reboot narrows search for Sarah Connor down to two

Following a story from last month, Deadline is now reporting that the search for Sarah Connor in the upcoming Terminator reboot is down to just two names including "Game of Thrones" star Emilia Clarke and 21 Jump Street's Brie Larson. The site reports that Clarke may be the frontrunner for the role due to having worked previously with director Alan Taylor on many episodes of the hit HBO series.

Casting is still coming together for the film which is said to also be looking for a new John Connor and Kyle Reese. It's reported that the production is concentrating on casting Sarah before any of the other roles.

The upcoming Terminator reboot plans television series tie-in

The action franchise heading back the big screen in 2015, Skydance Productions and Annapurna Pictures are now looking at bringing Terminator to television as well. The Hollywood Reporter today brings word that a new series is in development that will tie into the Alan Taylor film. Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, the pair behind X-Men: First Class and Thor, will provide the script for the pilot.

The franchise was previously brought to television as "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" (which also featured script work by Miller and Stentz). The new series is said to split from the timeline of James Cameron's 1984 original in a way that will allow it to connect back to the upcoming big screen reboot.

Megan Ellison of Annapurna and David Ellison of Skydance will produce the series alongside Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross. Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier will serve as executive producers.

The new Terminator movie is scheduled for a July 1, 2015 release.

This announcement comes just one week after "Game of Thrones" star Emilia Clarke emerged as the frontrunner for the Sarah Connor role, with Short Term 12's Brie Larson still in contention as well.
