Jason Statham targets Deckard Shaw’s return for Furious 8

Spoiler warning if you haven’t seen Furious 7…

Despite being locked away by Dwayne Johnson in a maximum security cell somewhere near the Earth’s crust at the end of Furious 7, it looks like no cage can truly contain the fury of Jason Statham’s bad guy Deckard Shaw as the action star tells Access Hollywood that he’ll return for another bout with Vin Diesel’s crew in Furious 8.

“We’re already talking about doing another one, Part 8,” Statham declares. “I’m a newcomer! I just got invited to the party in this last one so it’s nice to know I’m gonna be doing another… They’ve always got something good up their sleeve, and I don’t want to be the one who spoils the plot lines but there is some great stuff I already know about.”

After taking in over $1.5 billion worldwide, Furious 7 is just a few million shy of besting The Avengers to become the third-highest-grossing movie of all-time, a level of success Statham chalks up to the series’ steadfast following.

“The fanbase is really unique,” says the actor. “They really do relate to these characters, they love these characters, they’ve followed them for years and years.”

Star Vin Diesel announced Furious 8 at this year’s CinemaCon after the unprecedented success of the seventh film, and he along with Statham, Johnson and Kurt Russell are expected to return, along with franchise regulars Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky and Lucas Black reprising their roles as street racers-turned-international criminals-turned-super-secret agents.

Furious 8 director looks to be Straight Outta Compton’s F. Gary Gray

Following word yesterday that the Furious 8 director frontrunners had narrowed to four names, Vin Diesel has revealed that it’s now down to one – Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray. Diesel posted the above photo of himself with Gray from their talks about the next installment in the “Fast & Furious” franchise.

The news comes just days after word broke that Diesel was pitching Universal Pictures the thought of having original The Fast and the Furious helmer Rob Cohen to direct the eighth big screen installment, or perhaps even Diesel taking it on himself. At the time, Diesel said they are looking to close out the franchise with a final trilogy. But yesterday, the list of potential Fast 8 helmers was said to be Straight Outta Compton‘s F. Gary Gray, Now You See Me‘s Louis Leterrier, The Signal‘s Will Eubank and You’re Next and The Guest‘s Adam Wingard. Diesel is a producer on the films, but he has no final say on the director.

Gray has worked before with Diesel on A Man Apart and his credits also include The Italian Job, The Negotiator and Law Abiding Citizen. His $28-million budgeted Straight Outta Compton, released by Universal, earned an impressive $160 million domestically after opening in theaters on August 14.

Vin Diesel confirms Furious 8 will be set in New York

Dominic Toretto and the Fast & Furious crew have gone up against trains, tanks and military drones, but in Furious 8 they will face a far more malicious enemy: New York weather. That’s right, Vin Diesel has gone on “The Tonight Show” (via Hulu) and told Jimmy Fallon that the next installment in the road racers-turned-international-superspies franchise will create multiple fender benders in the Big Apple, and Diesel’s New York audience seemed mighty pleased by the news. Check out the full video clip of the interview below to see Diesel give a shout-out to his hometown!

“New York, baby!” Diesel exclaimed when Fallon asked about the new film’s setting. “Something that people don’t know is the first movie came from a Vibe article that was about street racers in New York. The director and producer at the time reset the whole movie in LA, but the Vibe article that the whole franchise was started from actually originated in New York. So we’re finally BRINGING IT BACK HOME, BABY!”

Vin Diesel reveals release dates for Fast and Furious 9 and Fast and Furious 10!

The road goes ever on today for Universal Pictures‘ massively successful Fast and Furious franchise. Leading man Vin Diesel has just taken to social media to reveal release dates for Fast and Furious 9 and Fast and Furious 10! Look for Fast and Furious 9 to arrive on April 19, 2019 with Fast and Furious 10 following on April 2, 2021. In both cases, those are the first films to claim their respective release dates.

Fast and Furious 9 and Fast and Furious 10 aren’t the only films new that Universal has planned for the franchise. It was recently revealed that plans are underway for both Fast and Furious spinoffs and prequels.

Although there’s still no confirmation as to whether or not Charlize Theron will playing the main villain, Universal Pictures‘ upcoming Fast 8 has, per The Wrap, added Game of Thrones star Kristofer Hivju as one of said villain’s henchmen.

Fast & Furiosa! Charlize Theron officially joins Fast 8!

It’s official! After much rumoring, Universal Pictures has confirmed that Oscar winner and expert wheel-woman Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road, Monster) will be playing the villain in the upcoming Fast 8! This comes after yesterday’s news that Game of Thrones star Kristofer Hivju will play one of said villain’s henchmen. Besides her expert war rig driving in last year’s Mad Max sequel, Theron previously did some heavy driving for Fast 8 helmer F. Gary Gray on 2003’s remake of The Italian Job.

Universal Pictures has officially begun shooting the upcoming sequel Fast 8 and, after yesterday’s post about a flaming car chase through the streets of Havana, we’re now getting an update straight from Dom Toretto himself, Vin Diesel, as the social media-savvy star takes to Instagram with a video look at the Cuban set along with director F. Dwayne Johnson reveals Hobbs in Fast 8

Dwayne Johnson took to his social pages today to give us a first look at his character, Hobbs, in Fast 8. He said:

When you strip a man of all he has. All that’s important to him. You force him to return to his roots.. and sometimes that’s a very dangerous and twisted place.

If I was going to return for another Fast & Furious I wanted to come in and disrupt the franchise in a cool way that got fans fired up and their blood pumping to see a new version of Hobbs and his “Daddy’s gotta go to work” mentality and set the table in a cool way for where the character goes in the future.

Maybe it’s a spinoff movie. Maybe it’s more #FF movies. Or hell maybe Hobbs just gets on his motorcycle and rides off into the sunset never to be seen again.

Either way, I’ve had a solid first week of shooting, good to be back with the ohana, good to work again w/ my bud and director F. Gary Gray and our home studio of Universal Studios Entertainment, as always have been the best partners to me and my Seven Bucks Productions team. Most importantly… you guys around the world will really dig this new version of the role, ’cause as we always say, disrupters dent the universe.
