Amazon officially announced it's making a 'Lord of the Rings' TV series
Amazon announced Monday that it had acquired the rights to adapt "The Lord of The Rings," J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy novel series, into a multi-season TV series.
According to Deadline, Amazon's purchase of the global rights for the series came with an upfront payment of "close to $250 million" to the Tolkien estate. That staggering figure excludes all future costs for development and production of the series.
