There was a number of different versions of Hermes, through the years. The first photo is Hermes TLS.
Also if I remember right, the demo room of AS had Hermes connected to a Parasound power amps. So if the price of Parasound amp is also peanuts might be a good solution.

As rightly, ika said that over the years different versions of this model were released, you have no doubt that you have the Hermes TLS model.
That is your model..

And this is the final model in Hermes series. Is the model you saw.
This model was the company's last five model, differentiated in many areas.
It had 1 tweeter 1", 2 midranges 6.5" and 2 woofers 8,2" (not 8" like your's)
And of course, greater power.,different crossover frequencies and so on...!

If you do not listen to high-tension music, the arcam will give you a sweet sound.
Keep in mind that you need a strong integrated or a cheap power amp with enough power and damping factor 120 or greater, to drive the Hermes right and stong.
Do not have any doubts about the loudspeaker resistance, it's definitely 8ohm.
I always speak to you based on the manufacturer's information from a company brochure that i have.

Whatever you do the Hermes is the wiser choice.
And especially since you do not listen to music at concert volumes.
If at some point you decide to take advantage of all the audio capabilities of this great speaker, then depending on the money you can invest in, you buy an amplifier with much power.
Daily there are many opportunities!!
Do not forget that the newer model of yours, that of the second photo as a used today, is relatively difficult,
It is a speaker that its owners do not easily separate.
And those that are used are sold from 3,000 euros and up !!
Your own from 1,500 to 2,000 euros!
So you understand that if it is good operating condition then we are talking about Gift !!!

If I were close to you, I would be very happy to help you carry them and listen to them,
So to recall their sweet and detailed sound !!!
I'm sure any buddy can help you carry them, then listening to the speaker playing will be compensated for his trouble!

Do not worry about that is builting so many years ago.
This particular company is very quality in assembling and your own model one of the most expensive and High-End.
So you understand the quality of the materials and of course their durability over time and use..
Do not forget that if they stayed for several years without playing, then it's ok.
The most reliable judge is your eyes and your ears.
Trust the fearlessly !!

Hermes and a CROWN XLS-1502 or CROWN XLS-1002 perhaps for amp, if ARCAM has pre-outs.
I think Hermes have 6 Ohms impedance.

June 1995,issue 267, an excellent article from the beloved Greek Audio magazine of the era.

Last three lines of page 61 you will find the woofer type and next page we will see the mid and tweeter types respectively. Also page 64 medium right the technical characteristics and right bottom corner lab review and yes according to the article HERMES is an easy load that could match with a low power amplifier. Minimum load 3,8 Ω at 100 Ηz.

Wish I was still in Scotland I would drive near you to buy a pair! or two!

I will definitely try to get the Hermes, and may be I keep the Axxia as well for a small set up.
