Ακόμα και από την Ζάμπια!

Για να συνεχίσω όμως το ακόμα πιό γλυκό αναλογικό μου ταξίδι, διαβάστε το παρακάτω (ακόμα και από την Ζάμπια!)

Thank you for the reaction on the e-mail I sent you.

The development of my turntable, the Moxey, started in July 2006 when I was invited to a audio expo in Johannesburg. The invitation cam when a local forum member (and owner of Vinyl South Africa) saw a picture of a tonearm that I made from balsa-wood for my Lenco L75 turntable. I told him that I would rather make my own turntable to demonstrate the balsa arm as the Lenco had too much rumble.

I drew up a design and had a prototype made by a local engineering facility. The platter and plinth is milled from hard, industrial nylon. The main-bearing shaft is milled from stainless-steel and the bearing bushes from a 'space-age' plastic developed in South Africa. This ensures a free running platter with extremely low rumble or stray movement. The platter and plinth each weigh 7kg. The turntable is non-suspended and is coupled to the 'ground' via 3 solid brass spikes. The machine can accommodate up to 3 tonearms via my special tonearm brackets. The platter is driven by a 250rpm AC synchronous motor - not ideal but the speed is super-stable.

I plan to manufacture these units on an order-only basis and it will be tailored to the clients specific taste. The production models' plinth and platter will, in the future, be cast from a special cocktail of resin, marble, lead, glass particle and wood particles. At the moment I am struggling to find a place to CNC the molds for the two parts. The molds have to be 100% correct when casting. I have also designed a super-ridged titanium tone-arm but alas! The design is too delicate for local engineers to manufacture.

For now I keep on studying the wonderful world of analogue audio. I want to work on a design for a electrostatic pick-up cartridge.

Συγγνώμη που διακόπτω το καμάκι σας...εεεεε...την διήγησή σας, αλλά ο συγγραφέας του email είναι από την Νότια Αφρική (domain 'co.za') και όχι από την Ζάμπια (domain 'co.zm'). Τυπικό, αλλά μπορεί και ουσιαστικό. Δεν θα θέλαμε π.χ. να πάτε να τον επισκεφθείτε και να πάτε σε λάθος χώρα...είναι και πρόβλημα εκεί κάτω αν χάσεις τον δρόμο σου...λιοντάρια, ύαινες, φίδια, ταραντούλες...:happy_5:
