The first of the anticipated super-cheap Chinese HD DVD players is expected to debut under the Venturer Electronics brand this Christmas. The Canadian company has a manufacturing operation in China and has announced that it will introduce “one of the lowest priced entry-level HD DVD players.” Speculation is rife that the machine could sell for as little as 99 dollars.
The brand’s SHD7000 model offers a 1080i video output via HDMI, upscaling of standard DVD plus an Ethernet connection to access online interactive content. It also supports the advanced Dolby TrueHD codec and is also compatible with CDs.
In related news, Amazon.com has begun a new promotion for Toshiba's HD-A2 HD DVD player. It's now available for 238 dollars, plus eight free HD DVDs. The e-tailer's offer runs until September 23. For more click here.
