"In a ground-breaking deal, Panasonic and Hitachi have agreed to join forces in the research and development of their respective plasma display businesses.
Under the agreement, the two will supply each other with plasma panels, as well as partner in areas of research and development, production and marketing. With immediate effect Panasonic will supply Hitachi with 103-inch screens, with Hitachi supplying 85-inch models to Panasonic from next year.
In a statement, Panasonic says: “In order to cope with falling prices and maintain a competitive advantage in the global market, it is necessary to achieve an even higher level of business efficiency. This includes providing a more comprehensive lineup that reflects the shift to large-screen products, drastically cutting costs and improving development efficiency.”"
