Toyota dominated the J.D. Power and Associates initial quality rankings with the top score in 11 of 19 segments. Meanwhile, Porsche had the fewest overall number of problems for any automaker. Porsche had 91 problems per 100 vehicles, compared to the industry average of 124. The 2006 scores and not comparable to those of previous years because the new survey counts perceived design flaws rather than actual defects only. Had the survey used the old methodology, Lexus would have ranked above Porsche with the fewest “problems.” Hyundai came in number three overall with 102 problems.
