Το The Departed γίνεται ο πρώτος high-def τίτλος που ξεπερνά τις 100.000 πωλήσεις

Η Warner ανακοίνωσε ότι το The Departed είναι ο πρώτος high-def τίτλος που έφτασε τις 100.000 πωλήσεις. Το The Departed όπως και όλοι οι τίτλοι της Warner κυκλοφορεί και σε hd dvd disc αλλά και σε blu-ray και όπως δήλωσε στέλεχος της Warner σε αυτό οφείλεται η επίτευξη του παραπάνω στόχου. Αν θυμάσται και η Sony είχε κάνει μια παρόμοια ανακοίνωση για το Casino Royale αλλά εκεί οι 100.000 μονάδες αφορούσαν πωλήσεις χονδρικής από την Sony προς τα καταστήματα ενώ στην περίπτωση του The Departed μιλάμε για πραγματικές πωλήσεις λιανικής. Μέσα στο 2007 η Warner θα ξεκινήσει και την διάθεση ταινιών στο δικό της υβριδικό φορμά TotalHD που βγάζει τον καταναλωτή από το δίλημμα hd dvd ή blu-ray και σκοπεύει μάλιστα να το προωθήσει και στα υπόλοιπα studio.

Platform neutral is way to go says HD winner Warner

Warner’s platform neutral policy has seen it post impressive figures for the HD DVD and Blu-ray release of Oscar winning thriller The Departed. Warner now claims to have become the first studio to have sold (rather than given away) 100,000 copies of a high-def disc title: “It’s no accident that Warner is the first to achieve this benchmark. We owe this success to a combination of great product and our decision to support both high-definition formats,” said President Ron Sanders.
With a 30 per cent share of the HD disc market, supporting both systems has made great business sense for the Hollywood major. Yet only Paramount shares its viewpoint and releases in both formats.
Comments Sanders: “At a time when the home video business is flat and high-definition media presents our best hope for near-term growth, it is unfortunate that we as an industry continue to perpetuate consumer confusion.”

"And finally, Warner has informed us this afternoon that the software sales breakdown for their HD releases of The Departed (mentioned in the earlier post this morning) is approximately 60/40 in favor of Blu-ray Disc. So that would equate to roughly 60,000 Blu-ray copies and 40,000 HD-DVD copies sold through. Just FYI."
