We are the proud owners of your digital projector lineup, the PB6100 and PB6200 DLP projectors. However, we have discovered some startling news recently that is unsettling. According to the review on ProjectorCentral.com (seen by most as one of the definitive sources of projector information available) you have advised them that the color wheel speed is not 3x as previously stated, but 2x.

An advantage of both the PB6100 and PB6200 relative to other DLP products in this price class is their 3x speed color wheel. Some viewers are sensitive to rainbow artifacts on DLP projectors that derive from the sequential refreshing of red, green, and blue as the color wheel rotates. The faster the wheel rotation speed, the less people tend to be bothered by rainbow artifacts. For example, the popular InFocus X1 that competes directly with the 6100 has a 2x rotation speed. Many people have reported problematic rainbow distractions on the X1. The 3x speed of the 6100/6200 will eliminate or reduce the effects of this artifact for many users. [Correction: On 12/8/04 BenQ informed us that the original specification of 3x wheel speed is incorrect, and that both the 6100 and 6200 have 2x speed wheels. One of the main selling features of your PB6100/6200 projector was the fact that the color wheel spun at 3x, thus helping tame the Rainbow Effect that can plague 2x projectors, such as your competitor, the Infocus X1. The Rainbow Effect is a well-known problem with DLP projectors, and some people are prone to suffer headaches and have an overall less desirable movie experience because of them.
Many people, such as myself, chose the BenQ PB6100 over its direct competitor, the Infocus X1, because of the color-wheel speed. The X1s technology only allowed a 2x color-wheel speed, and thus people were more prone to the Rainbow Effect. However, the X1 has some additional features such as Faroudja processing, and a bulb that is rated 1000 hours more than the BenQ series.
In many cities it is next to impossible to demo low-end projectors, thus we have no way of comparing competing products. Many people bought the PB6100/6200 over the X1 out of fear that they, or a family member would be prone to the Rainbow Effect problem. Projector specifications are very important in determining which model to purchase.
The 3x color-wheel specification has been mentioned in every single review of the PB6100/6200 projector since its release, and has been terribly misleading to the consumer. This inaccurate specification has caused us to live with an inferior product due to misrepresentation on your behalf.
While we feel the PB6100/6200 are great projectors, we feel cheated in knowing that our money could have purchased a superior product for the same price, or less. Many of us have also caused others to buy the BenQ projectors by word of mouth representation, and through internet forums; we will no longer be recommending these products.
We will not be purchasing any more BenQ products as we feel this inaccuracy might extend to other BenQ products as well.
We would like BenQ to acknowledge this mistake and make amends to the customers who were mislead with these claims. This is an open petition asking you to kindly offer retribution for the false specifications.
