Michael Green in negotiations to rewrite Blade Runner Sequel

Writer Michael Green is in negotiations to do a rewrite of Alcon Entertainment's Blade Runner sequel penned by Hampton Fancher (Blade Runner, The Minus Man, The Mighty Quinn) and to be directed by Ridley Scott. Fancher's original story/screenplay is set some years after the first film concluded.

Alcon co-founders and co-Chief Executive Officers Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove will produce with Bud Yorkin and Cynthia Sikes Yorkin, along with Ridley Scott. Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble, CEO’s of Thunderbird Films, will serve as executive producers.

Green recently completed rewrites on Robopocalypse and Warners Bros.' Gods and Kings.

Alcon and Yorkin previously announced that they are partnering to produce Blade Runner theatrical sequels and prequels, in addition to all television and interactive productions.

The original film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." The film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 1993 and is frequently taught in university courses. In 2007, it was named the 2nd most visually influential film of all time by the Visual Effects Society.

Released by Warner Bros. almost 30 years ago, Blade Runner was adapted by Hampton Fancher and David Peoples from Philip K. Dick's groundbreaking novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" and directed by Scott following his landmark Alien. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards (Best Visual Effects, and Best Art Direction).

Ridley Scott offers update on Blade Runner 2

Director Ridley Scott talked to Empire magazine about his next two projects lined up for 2014 and 2015: Exodus and The Forever War.

Scott stated to Empire magazine that Blade Runner 2 is also still in the works. "Yeah, we're working on [Blade Runner 2] right now - that will happen sooner or later."

Ridley Scott comments on Blade Runner, Prometheus sequels

Director Ridley Scott is as busy as ever with his next effort Exodus: Gods and Kings hitting theaters on December 14 of this year and his next film The Martian, starring Matt Damon, set for release on November 25, 2015. Beyond that, he's got two highly-anticipated sequels in the pipeline: Blade Runner 2 and Prometheus 2. Speaking with EW, the director opened up about both films, revealing that the script for the Blade Runner sequel has been completed and which he might tackle first.

"It's written and it's damn good," Scott says of the Blade Runner sequel. "Of course it involves Harrison, who is a survivor after all these years - despite the accident (referring to Ford's "Star Wars" injury). So yes, that will happen."

Scott went on to reveal that he could direct the Blade Runner sequel after The Martian, though that leaves very little time for Prometheus 2, currently set for release on March 4, 2016.

"That’s the problem, I've got a lot of ducks in a row. But they're all written."

Denis Villeneuve to direct Blade Runner sequel, Harrison Ford confirmed!

Harrison Ford is officially set to reprise his celebrated role of Rick Deckard in the sequel to Alcon Entertainment’s Blade Runner and Academy Award nominee Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Incendies) is in negotiations to direct, it was announced by Alcon co-founders and co-CEO’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson! The film is scheduled to start principal photography in summer of 2016. Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the original) and Michael Green have written the original screenplay, based on an idea by Fancher and Ridely Scott.

The story takes place several decades after the conclusion of the 1982 original.

“We are honored that Harrison is joining us on this journey with Denis Villeneuve who is a singular talent, as we experienced personally on ‘Prisoners,'” said Johnson and Kosove, “Hampton and Michael, with Ridley Scott, have crafted a uniquely potent and faithful sequel to one of the most universally celebrated films of all time, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with this amazing, creative team.”

Ford will next be seen in The Age of Adaline for Lionsgate before he reprises another iconic sci-fi role, returning as Han Solo in J.J. Abrams’ much-anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Villeneuve’s next, meanwhile, is the crime thriller Sicario, starring Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Benecio Del Toro, for Black Label Media and Lionsgate.

Alcon Entertainment acquired the film, television and ancillary franchise rights to Blade Runner in 2011 from producer Bud Yorkin to produce prequels and sequels to the iconic science-fiction thriller. Yorkin will serve as a producer on the sequel along with Kosove and Johnson. Cynthia Sikes Yorkin will co-produce.

Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble, CEO’s of Thunderbird Films, will serve as executive producers.

Ridley Scott teases more Blade Runner sequels

The subject of the upcoming Blade Runner sequel came up during an interview with [URL='https://www.yahoo.com/movies/ridley-scott-on-bringing-the-1267400533827638.html']Yahoo![/url] wherein Ridley Scott implied that, like Prometheus, there’s potential for more films to follow.

“Everyone else is, so why not? I love to work. The French say “Work to live,” and I live to work. I’m very lucky to have a job that I adore. All my kids do the same thing. Some of it’s trying, but it’s like being in professional sport. It’s so competitive [that] you better keep bouncing the ball. You can’t rest.”

Scott went on to talk about Harrison Ford’s reaction to the script saying:

“Harrison said, ‘Mehh,’ and I said, ‘No, read this.’ And I think he said, ‘This is the best script I’ve ever had.’ We’ve been working on it for a couple of years.”

The director also went on to echo his belief that Ford’s Deckard was a Replicant in the first film and teased how he could have survived into the next film.

“Of course he’s a bloody Replicant! He’s going to have to admit it…You’ll have to see the story. It’ll all make sense.”

Scott also revealed the setting, which lines up to the release of the original film and the present day.

“It was 2017, so coming back it’ll be 2047, roughly. As young as you can play Ryan Gosling. He’s 34, but he looks 27 when he’s doing his push-ups. So maybe 2050.”

Blade Runner sequel gets a release date

Alcon Entertainment’s sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 masterpiece Blade Runner, to star Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford (reprising his role as Rick Deckard), and to be directed by Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Prisoners), will be released by Warner Bros. Pictures in North America on January 12, 2018, it was announced by Alcon co-founders and co-CEO’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.

Sony Pictures Releasing International will distribute the Blade Runner sequel in all overseas territories in all media.

Dave Bautista teases Blade Runner 2 casting

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Golden Globe winner Robin Wright was in final talks to join the cast of Blade Runner 2 and now another cast member has potentially entered the ring! Wrestler-turned-actor Dave Bautista took to Facebook to tease he’ll also be joining the film.

Bautista posted a photo of himself holding the origami unicorn from the original film, and wrote: “I can’t wait to share some really exciting news…” Check back here for the official announcement soon!

Blade Runner sequel release date moves up to October 2017

Alcon Entertainment has announced that the Blade Runner sequel release date has been moved up from January 12, 218 to October 6, 2017. The film is set to star Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Robin Wright and Dave Bautista.

Blade Runner 2 adds Ana de Armas

Knock Knock star Ana de Armas will join Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Robin Wright and Dave Bautista for the upcoming Blade Runner 2, it was announced by Alcon Entertainment co-founders and co-CEO’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.

Ana de Armas’ role is said to be a lead in the film, which has Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Prisoners) directing. Principal photography is scheduled to begin July 2016. The film will be released by Warner Bros. in North America and Sony Pictures Releasing International will distribute in all media for all overseas territories.

Cuban born Ana de Armas began her career in Spanish language film and television in Cuba, then later Spain. She will be seen in two major motion pictures releasing this August, including The Weinstein Company’s boxing biopic Hands of Stone, in which she appears alongside Robert De Niro and Edgar Ramirez, and Warner Bros.’ comedic drama War Dogs, starring Jonah Hill and Miles Teller.

“We think Ana is one of the most exciting, up-and-coming international actors in the world today,” say Johnson and Kosove, “and we are thrilled she will be playing such an important part in this sequel.”

Sylvia Hoeks boards Blade Runner sequel

Alcon Entertainment announced today that Dutch actress Sylvia Hoeks has been tapped for a leading role alongside Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Robin Wright, Ana de Armas and Dave Bautista in the upcoming sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 Blade Runner. The announcement arrives from Alcon co-founders and co-CEO’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.

“Sylvia is a radiant talent, a tremendous actress with great appeal in a wide variety of roles,” say Kosove and Johsnon. “Her addition to this vastly accomplished international cast is a perfect fit.”
