IAQ-1 is a DSP controlled active system featuring a unique open baffle speaker design. The eye-catching sculptural shape precisely accommodates seven drive units for each 3-way speaker. High, mid and low frequency drivers each have cabinet dimensions corresponding to the wavelengths of sound generated. This system creates an exceptionally transparent sound field at the sweet spot and throughout the listening room.

The Icono Audio IAQ-1 uses digital signal processing (DSP) to control all equalization and crossover functions. This is an active speaker system, so amplification follows the crossover rather than the reverse. Each speaker uses 3 amplifier channels, a total of 6 channels for a pair of speakers. DSP is a practical necessity for the minimal open baffle design, with additional benefits. In an active system, the amplifier is wired directly to each drive unit (woofer/midrange/tweeter) rather than connecting through a passive crossover network. This allows maximum control and power delivery from amplifier to speaker, and subjectively gives a focused, vivid character to the sound.

Midrange - One 17 cm paper cone midrange with advanced neodymium motor design, high compliance, low distortion, and acoustically transparent structure for dipole operation.
Woofer - Four 22cm fiberglass cone woofers with high compliance, low distortion, low moving mass for reduced vibration, well vented motor design, open back for dipole operation.

DSP: Eight analog output channels control two three-way speakers plus two optional subwoofer channels. RCA connectors for unbalanced analog, or balanced analog on Phoenix terminal blocks. Digital to analog conversion measured 105dB signal to noise.Stereo analog inputs on unbalanced RCA, or balanced Phoenix Terminal Blocks. 24 bit, 96kHz analog to digital conversion, measured 105dB signal to noise.Stereo digital inputs on RCA, Toslink or AES-EBU. Two assignable digital output channels available.

Cables: Custom handmade six-conductor speaker cables included, terminated with Speakon connector at one end and color-coded banana plugs at the other. Standard length is 4 meters; other lengths and terminal options available upon request.
