Απάντηση: The Crow (TBA)

Luke Evans is... The Crow!

There have been a number of actors in talks and names very loosely attached but it looks like Relativity Media have made their decision and the actor who will play The Crow in the reboot of James O'Barr's dark tale of vengeance is none other than...

Welsh actor Luke Evans!

Evans was the original choice of Spanish filmmaker F. Javier Gutierrez, but he had been busy, having been cast in Dracula and as Bard the Bowman in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug while other actors in the mix included James McAvoy, Tom Hiddleston and Alexander Skarsgard. Instead, they decided to push back the start of the movie until early 2014 to accommodate Evans, who next appears as the villain in the summer's anticipated Fast & Furious 6.

Evans has only been on the scene a few years, his first big movie being Louis Letterier's Clash of the Titans in which he played the god Apollo. A year later he was one of The Three Musketeers in Paul W.S. Anderson's reimagining and then he stepped up to play the Greek God Zeus in Tarsem's Immortals.

With this booking, Evans also has the distinction of being the only actor (so far) to appear in both The Raven and The Crow.

He steps into the shoes of the late Brandon Lee who helped turn the original 1994 Alex Proyas-directed movie into a cult hit.

Luke Evans talks about The Crow remake

Little is still known about the upcoming reboot of The Crow from Relativity Media and Dimension Films. We've heard things tossed around such as "re-imagining" and "gritty reboot," but with the film still in pre-production the details are still unavailable. Speaking with Metro UK, actor Luke Evans, who will play the title character in the film, spoke about the tragedy of Brandon Lee, the themes of the movie, as well as saying their film will be very close to the source material.

"It is incredibly sad that Brendon died making the movie. He was a very talented actor. It is a very beautiful story, The Crow. It is a very tragic story with huge emotional themes. We plan to tell the story differently and with a lot of integrity to the original comic book."

Luke Evans maintains The Crow reboot will be loyal to original comic

Luke Evans has previously spoken briefly about the upcoming reboot of The Crow being loyal to the original comic book, but in a recent interview with Red Carpet News TV, he maintains that the film will be loyal to the source material and not a re-hash of the 1994 film that starred Brandon Lee.

"Well, we just want to be as authentic and loyal to the original comic as possible, and that means the story will be different. It'll be different from what people are expecting. It's not about us ripping off the Brandon Lee movie, that stands alone as a brilliant piece of cult film and a great performance, but we're going back to the book, the original book. And that's exciting because we're bringing to the screen a lot of parts of the story that were never really told. So yeah, it's our chance to do it, to do it differently, but to be as loyal and respectful of the original storyline as we possibly can."

When asked how he felt about putting on the iconic make-up for the film, Evans responded:

"It'll be interesting won't it to do that? I don't know how it will feel, I've yet to think about that too much. I'm just prepping, it's all very physical at the moment."

James O’Barr confirms Jack Huston and Jessica Brown Findlay for The Crow

Last month, it was reported that hot “Boardwalk Empire” and Ben-Hur remake star Jack Huston was being tapped to portray the iconic Eric Draven in the long-gestating remake of The Crow, and now the comic’s creator James O’Barr has confirmed to Dread Central at the Lexington Comic and Toy Convention that the actor has signed on the line that is dotted.

“Jack Huston has definitely been cast,” said O’Barr, who stated he was “really happy with that choice,” and that the film “will shoot in a couple of months.”

During a videotaped panel at the con, O’Barr also let slip that “Downton Abbey” actress Jessica Brown Findlay will likely take the role of Draven’s murdered girlfriend Shelly in flashbacks. In keeping with the project’s English director Corin Hardy (The Hallow), O’Barr says most of the cast will be British, including at least one “Game of Thrones” vet.

The Crow remake loses Jack Huston

It appears to be, two steps back today for the upcoming remake of The Crow. This morning brought word that, according to Variety The Crow has lost leading man Jack Huston due to scheduling issues.

“Jack Huston is unfortunately unavailable to continue with us on ‘The Crow,'” says director Corin Hardy. “‘The Crow’ is an amazing project, and I am grateful that we have the time and patience to get it right. We look forward to unveiling our new lead and starting to film over the next several weeks.”

Huston isn’t the first lead to exit the project. Luke Evans was formerly attached to play Draven, but officially departed the film earlier this year.
