The Flash: Ezra Miller talks superhero physics and landing the role

When Ezra Miller was cast as Barry Allen/The Flash for a solo movie as well as participation in other DC Cinematic Universe movies such as Justice League it was considered an unconventional choice, but a recent interview with MTV shows that the acclaimed indie actor (The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Stanford Prison Experiment) is more than game to take on the role.

“Barry Allen is the hero of the Silver Age who follows a lot of really interesting discoveries in physics,” says Miller. “Where he comes from is where we figured out the Event Horizon was there, and he was the character who was created through our mythos machine of comic books to break that Event Horizon, so you could explore in fantasy… I think that’s an interesting idea. And, what’s an interesting idea to me is, ‘What the f**k does that do to someone?’”

Miller’s infectious enthusiasm also extends to “The Flash” TV series, whose second season begins airing on The CW this October 6.

“I’m not avoiding it at all,” Miller says of the show. “I think it’s awesome! C’mon, we’re The Flash! It’s parallel universes! Grant Gustin is The Flash AND I’m The Flash, don’t you see? It’s the Event Horizon, we crossed it baby! Grant and I are chillin’, we’re gonna have a race, it’s gonna be dope. Like Jay Garrick and Barry Allen back in the day.”

An admitted longtime comic book fan, Miller is using his role as a means to truly do a deep dive into fanboy lore.

“I’ve been a comic guy, but I’m going in as hard as possible because I have a serious excuse to,” Miller enthuses. “I have the ultimate license to geek out SO HARD all the time!”

Featuring a screenplay by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, The Flash solo movie is set for release March 23, 2018, while Justice League Part One will be directed by Zack Snyder and released on November 10, 2017.

Another Justice Leaguer joins The Flash movie!

Another Justice Leaguer is set to appear in the upcoming The Flash movie! Variety is reporting that Ray Fisher’s Cyborg, who made his big screen debut in this year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, is set to make an appearance alongside Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen. There’s no telling right now exactly how large a role Cyborg will play (or if he’ll be the only additional Justice Leaguer), but he’s the latest name to join a cast that also includes Kiersey Clemons as Iris West. Dope director Rick Famuyiwa is helming the DC Comics adaptation.

Director Rick Famuyiwa exits The Flash movie

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Dope director Rick Famuyiwa has exited Warner Bros.’ upcoming The Flash movie, citing “creative differences” with the studio. Famuyiwa boarded the project in June of this year following the departure of Seth Grahame-Smith from the project in April.

“When I was approached by Warner Bros and DC about the possibility of directing The Flash, I was excited about the opportunity to enter this amazing world of characters that I loved growing up, and still do to this day,” Famuyiwa said in a statement to the outlet. “I was also excited to work with Ezra Miller, who is a phenomenal young actor. I pitched a version of the film in line with my voice, humor, and heart. While it’s disappointing that we couldn’t come together creatively on the project, I remain grateful for the opportunity. I will continue to look for opportunities to tell stories that speak to a fresh generational, topical, and multicultural point of view. I wish Warner Brothers, DC, Jon Berg, Geoff Johns, and Ezra Miller all the best as they continue their journey into the speed force.”

What remains unconfirmed about this latest development is how it will affect the production schedule of the film, which was set to begin in Spring 2017 for a 2018 release. However, star Ezra Miller has commitments already for next summer, meaning the film could face a substantial delay.
